Just out of curiosity do u all prefer smooth or rigid binding? I'm used to rigid bind and decided to try smooth binding. Painting the weights and influence objects are nice, but i can't get good results around the joints. With a rigid bind i'd just use flexors. With smooth binding is painting the weights the only way to fix joint problems? The main problem areas are the backs of the knees, and the torso where the legs meet the body.

I prefer Rigid Bind,. I find its much more straight forward and not quite as fiddly.

I like smooth bind. You have alot more play with how your points are wieghted. If you use smooth bind stay away from the smooth option in paint wieghts, and don't mirror weights, paint the whole model.

you have much more control with rigid binding, but depending on the deformation, you may encounter some problem areas. such as the thumb, and the hip, and shoulders

I've found that rigid works better for hard bends. (fingers, elbow) cuz you can add flexors and other manipulators to adjust how they deform.

Smooth is good for gradual bending things (worms, plant stems).

Sometimes I suppose a mix could be pulled off...
