Title: Creature - The Optimist
Name: Samir Kharchi
Country: Germany
Software: (Other), BodyPaint, CINEMA 4D, Photoshop

This is an image I made for a contest. It was done within about 10 days. Everything was done within Cinema 4D using Bodypaint for the textures (+ procedural textures for the environment), Plugin DPIT Nature Spirit for the environment and Photoshop for contrast correction and the strokes effect (which I usually donīt like but it fitted the image so greatly that I decided to keep it like that).

Concerning the topic: His spaceship crashed on the earth surface and lots of things were flying around. Unfortunately he came across those things... ;-)

Furthermore, he acted as a guinea pig for an evil species that captured most of his congeners during invasion. They amputated several of his limbs and...

However, in the end, he is still optimistic.

That's a very cool looking creature. Can't quite decide whether it's horrifying or hillarious :). I love the tongue and especially the fork in the head is a clever touch.

5 stars from me.

Thanks Uncle Ox. Yep, the fork is an essential part of the story... :)

He he, this monster's totaly out there. I think the axe and the fork are a nice touch.
I've noticed that there's a piece of fabrik on two of the feet. Is it underwear?:D

If it were not for that cheap Crosshatch filter (it doesn't fit) straight out of Photoshop over it, I'd say it was perfect! The filter makes it like you have something to hide, so lose it and let your silly creature shine. If you seek a stylized look, stay away from anything that is applied so uniformily that depth of field is flattened on the picture plane. Maybe just overlay a texture so you can maintain edge quality.

I love how there is this fork in its skull, and right next to it is the more severe hatchet. Plus, the zany creature is all bruised and injured... nice detail.

The coloring is great too, very optimistic. I can almost hear the freak shouting its alien equivalent to "Yipee!"

Thank you guys for all your comments.

@Tesparg: hehe, itīs not certainly underwear but definetly something that could make him fall over it. ;)

@Jinchuuriki: thanks for your crits! I will try a DOF rendering but I am not sure if it will add here, as this would probably destroy the aerial perspective of the background (landscape). Weīll see.

Thanks!
