Hi, I am pretty new to 3D so excuse my ignorance I also couldn't find the right forum so I went to my home turf :) . I have a client that wants to have a product (a watch) modeled and interactively displayed on the web. The potential customers should be allowed to look at the product from all sides. I thought I'll use QTVR. I made a quick VR file yesterday using C4Ds VR render command. Worked fine but the file size is far to large. It just takes too long to load. What program can I use to sort of load my model data and a baked texture and use that to let the customer spin the product instead of loading all those VR megabytes.

Furthermore, the client wants to show different models (colour, dial, etc) and the potential customer should be allowed to configure these in near realtime by pressing buttons. Can Flash do such things?
Any help is appreciated.

you could maybe export to shockwave 3d for use in director.

Thanks mdme_sadie. I'll investigate that.

You can do all that with Director.
I've used director & it's not the best app on the market, some weird worklow, especially if you're used to flash.
The 3D shockwave that is possible in Director is not easy to master (well, it looked like it wasn't easy, & I can do programming).

There's a new adobe acrobat that provides a solution : showing 3d embedded in pdf documents. (official product page here (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat3d/main.html))

You can see it in action on this pdf. (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdfs/3d_pdf_demo.pdf)

just click on the big 3D model & use the tools to rotate etc ...

Thanks Fre. I had a look at Acrobat 3D quite impressive but so is the price  . I get a whole animation app for that. Ok, not C4D :D .
I'll see what I do. I might code something in Java. I am just starting and every darn dollar counts. If I had clients lining up I would not hesitate and buy the package with the best workflow.

Cheers

you could also take a look at this:

looks interesting and also is available for mac users.

If you go the Java route, keep in mind that C4D can export to the .UZR format, which is very handy in a java environment.

What about Blaze 3d? http://www.holomatix.com/. Its not too bad. I've been experimenting with it lately. I may post a demo up once I get home from work. Its abit pricey for my liking but its still pretty good.

Many thanks for all the input. Blaze 3D looks very good, exactly what I want but at US$1600 it's out. I'll look at Cortona, thanks for the link jondoeOne. Also thanks for the tip, JamesMK.

A rather reasonable product that might help is "VRWorx".
Not an ad or endorsement!
