View Full Version : Quick Question - Light cover onto car?
eyeronik 02-15-2006, 07:16 PM Hi, making a car (not by choice:) and I detached the light cover on the main headlight so I could build behind it. Its basically a plane, but if I attach it to the main car body it gives errors. I thought you could attach planes to polys/meshes but I guess not. So does everyone leave the car headlights seperate and not welded to the car?

ah damn another poor explanation from me! I have included an image. Basically I want to know are you meant to weld that piece in or not. I welded it in but it gives stl check errors.

No, don't weld it, keep it separated.

What is the error? are you using Edit Poly? Maybe you are talking about flipping normals when attaching or not being able to weld those verts, if thatīs the case use edit mesh instead for attaching and welding and then colapse it to edit poly.
For what I can see in your sketch you really donīt have to weld those elements together (you could and you could give them a different mat id but not really necesary).

i can weld it but the error is it just highlights all the edges and a hole appears on one of the polys, so its quite odd.

from what you have described, you are going to get stl errors whether you weld or not, just different ones in each case.... what you have to ask yourself, is what you are using this for going to matter if you get stl errors or not?
