Hey there ,

This is a character I am making which I plan to use in some animations I am doing for my reel , these animations will be exercises more than any thing, trying to express a particular emotion or situation.

I have been browsing these galleries and WIP's for about 1 year now and have always been reluctant to post because of the high quality of work .

I'm at a level now were I feel it would benefit me to cop a bit of criticism from peers doing what I'm doing, so here goes.

Dont hold back, I'm a sucker for pain.

These are the concept drawings I used for his head and body shape .

This is a bad pic , I know , (trying to keep the file sizes down) , but these are small versions of the drawings I did for the body shape.

The front shot was mirrored in photoshop to make it symetrical as was the head (above).

OK , there they are.

I'm currently up to the face morphs for this character so I will be able to go home tonight and grab some progressive renders of the modelling I have done.

See you all tomorrow .

Hi ,

Back again , I've gathered together some renders of the main stages through out the modelling of this character.

I realise I have kind of done this WIP a little backwards as I have already finished the modelling and have begun the rigging process , but any C & C are welcome, noted and appreciated as they will help me with any future characters I do .

This was the first major milestone I reached when modelling the head .

Well....I have some crits for ya...the shape of the head is off by quite a bit...generally....the eyes could use some detail..such as lids that have some folds in them as the drawing does...also the line under the eyes doesnt' appear to be in the drawing either....maybe welding some of the points together would eliminate that.........and the nose doesn't look like the one in the original drawing...It's a great base and you could make that model look like the drawing with the already existing geometry...maybe adding some here and there......Keep trying...practice makes perfect.... :wavey:

I really Liked those Drawings, Very good Job.
But your Model don't look even close to that, don't get me wrong, But I think that your model needs some serious refining to do, Couse I just can't let you waste such a good Drawings. :D

P.S. Could you show us a wire of your guy ? I'll be waiting for updates....

Good Luck !

Here is the next stage, head now has ears attached, wrinkles were added to the forehead, cheeks have been drawn in a little , basically just tweaked the head and face till I likled the look .

.... and here is a profile shot of the same stage .

In this shot you might notice the nostrils are a bit flared / high up , I fixed this later on down the track .

The general shape of the head straight on is a big factor...:surprised also the body concept doesn't go with the head IMHO....maybe a skinny linky old dude slouched over...

Thanks for your advise guys , I really am still quite new at this 3D thing and I know I have a long way to go .

The drawings I did for this character were the images I placed into Max and used as templates to help me shape the head, and yes I have deviated from the concept quite a bit in some areas.

I really do find it quite hard to make something 3D of two 2D images but this is just a matter of practise I'm sure.

This character was never meant to be a realistic one , the picture I had in my head was a Bald, unfit, middle aged man, Beer belly and skinny limbs, kind of a cartoony human Homer .

My drawings weren't 100% accurate renditions of what I wantyed him to look like so I had to strike a bitr of a ballance between what was in my head and what I could get onto paper .

I could have scrapped the model and started again or tweaked it for days and days but this is for an animation assignment and I kind of had to draw a "thats gonna have to do" line.

Here are a couple more .

Cheers , Ben .

Superb work....you shouldn't have shown the concept and I wouldn't have been so critical.....The model itself is quite nice...Keep practicing... :buttrock: :surprised

Thanks Remi,

Its all such a big learning curve this 3D thing, but I'm not gonna let it phaze me, as you say " Keep Practicing " ;)

I'll have some renders of the Face morphs tomorrow.

Cheers , Ben .

The concept is excellent! Unfortunately your model doesn't exactly match to it :( It's a very good model although and If you didn't show the concept I would like it more for sure :)

Hey there Poly-Jockey's,

I spent last week creating the facial morphs for my character and have posted a few renders of the combinations I am achieving with the different morphs I created.

I wrote out a list of all the key facial movements, smile, frown, angry brow, blink, open mouth, blah blah blah, etc etc, and then use what ever combination is required to get the expression I want.

Hope you like them .
