well i been doing some fast way up since my main HD and Backup HD both crashed at the same time total lost of most of my files.

well here is a fast test using some modfied presets. till i get some more stormy i want bigger waver and some splahses going arround. i already have a particle system set for that. i`l post a preview video later on. the boat is going to be remodel and textured off course. theres no lighting setup yet. C&C always wellcome

As Blacknight said, this is the first test (still very simple). The final look will be really very different and, as I told you before, very, very surprising.

that is definetly the hottest looking sea ive seen so far.. how can i do that! (in 3ds max)

blacknight
02-16-2006, 07:25 PM
well its not really as simple as in maya, fluid help a lot to archive this.

in max youl definatly would like to take a look at dreamscape (http://www.afterworks.com/DreamScape.asp) and maybe get Deconstructing the Elements with 3ds max (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/024051954X/xenomorphic-20/002-8182922-5978420?creative=327641&camp=14573&link_code=as1) my advice would be learm to use the mix material that would help you create the sea and the foam effect on the geometry(you can create the sea with a plane and some noise displacement). volume select could help you to add the foam in the crest if the waves. give that a try and see what you can get from it.

this is looking quiet nice so far. I really hope you can tweak those presets some more. because right now it screams maya ocean preset when looking at it.
looking forward to some moving pictures.

yeah i know, i working on it but i hit a little problem and havent got much time anyway. when the wave is too big i found out that the bumb and water displacement get stretched and it looks horrible. i trying to fix that now. i`l try to post thosoe test tonight and the boat tghis week.

Well, today afternoon I saw the first 3D test images in HD 1080p, really cool images (still a tests  )
We are currently playing with file formats, but think we'll fileout float or 16bit exr images to finally work with. :)
Hope my friend blacknight will post any great test image soon. (Had many problems with his computer)

PD: sorry for my terrible englishˇˇˇˇˇ.

oook heres an update on the sea progress. finally started getting what i wanted from the envorioment. i got the horizon where it should be and the sea at kinda of the right scale.. now i working on the crest mist of the waves using particles and the color at point comand with some nice expression duncan explains quite well in his webblog that also bring the point i hate maya. in just sudenly stops calulating dynamics and make me restar the program from time to time witch makes wokring on this a pain the boat is being remake to make textuing a bit eaiser and textures should be done in about a week.

the lighting in not yet finish is just a simple set to help me see how is looking. no post yet either. C&C always wellcome

ok it seens everyone else is getting ahead of time and showing some animation ^^ so here is a test of the sea dynamic. mist and particles are not working quite right yet so i not going to show that yet. see the anim here (http://infused-reality.net/comp/test.mov) remember this are just test as well as the other render. they do not represent the final look :D :wise: i`n not gonna show that till later and with some post on it.

Well, blacknight is working very hard :D.
We are talking about the final aspect right now, and I've got to say only two words about what we're gonna make for this challenge: "really amazing" :buttrock:.

But remember, all these are Tests.

This is looking very nice too. The fog looks a little bright to me but it may be my monitor?

Are these all native max procedural textures?

blacknight
02-27-2006, 03:26 PM
naa, no max used here. thats pure maya using fluids effects.

Hi all, sorry for not posting before.
I'm the one who is texturing the boat so here's a small summary of how i'm working on it.
Also, you can look some screencaptures of how its going on the 3d model (as blacknight said before, we haven't touched the shaders yet so i think its a bit soon to show more renders of the ship).

Since we're not going to make it to the deadline :'( i want to improve all the textures, and even if i haven't got much spare time because of my studies, i'll do it anyway.
Everything is done with photoshop with mouse (i wish i had a wacom :'( xD), i'll try to write something in the blog explaining a bit how i did it as soon as i can (next week maybe).
I also made a few bumpmaps (for the ship hull and for the wood), which i want to change a bit.

The ship will not be seen from too near, but i'm trying to work with hi-resolution just in case we want a closer view.

Everything will be in HD, so even if its only seen from a bit far from the camera, the biggest textures will be near 2k.

Some screencaptures from Maya of the textured model.

And parts of the textures seen in detail.

I'll try to make some changes for next week, and i'll try to post a bit more :)
Dn

PS: We are going to remove all the weapons, and probably improve a bit the model.

The post i wrote (and this one too, i suppose) will not appear until they're validated, since these are my first 2 posts... so, sorry if they appear to be a bit late (blacknight is making some illumination tests :))

Guys please keep in mind that the dateline is for Monday of next week.

If you want to make your renderings less painfull, render at 640X 400 with no reflections.

Infused-reality.net is down so i have uploaded blacknight's renders to another ftp so you can see the pictures...

EDIT: i have edited this post and deleted the pictures now that infused-reality.net is back.
I will only leave the last test-render.

http://www.toolsds.com/caps/kk.jpg

And thats it ;P. Hope infused-reality comes back soon...
oh, RobertoOrtiz, thanks for the advice... but i think we won't make it
on time :( (we'll finish this project anyway ... ) .

i dont think well make it to the dateline roberto. we like how this project is going and we decided to not rush it. si we can make it look as good as we can. we dont have much free time either full time work for me and nemus and studies for dn. that almost no free time to work on this. but i hope you guys enjoy the final result when its done we try to put the animatic for the dateline at least.

I understand.
Posting the animatic is a great idea, but I would add a very polished rendered still of the project.
