It's cool but it's really low contrast, you should do something with the lighting to make it stand out more.

The bubbles look solid, aren't you using transparent spheres w/ high specular values?

Otherwise, good stuff!

really nice work Stu :), very cool, looks almost like it's got watery distortion on it, but it's the leaves of the plants... would look cool wiht that oily distortion effet slightly perhaps? post effect? reminds me of the city of lost children underwater sequences.

nice christmas avatar too hehe

Good work. It will be better if there's some caustice effect on the Orca's surface.

Thanks guys

Adrian yep transparent bubbles {fresnel} with a high spec...I think the problem is the voulmetric spot lights shadow.

The contrast looks ok on my monitor,I lifted the levels to about 1.3 actually for Windows users as well

Per thanks man......oily distortion,ya good idea.I also wanted caustics from the waves above, but I dont have any surface/substance that I can add reflection to without screwing everything up mightily,so I didnt bother :)

Christmas avatar...ya I thought time to get in mood bud :D ........Totally OT but I just bought my brother a Kung Fu Hamster. It has a little kung fu outfit and a head band etc and a little pair of nun chukkas I think it is,you press his hand and he sings "evryone was kung fu fighting" and swings from side to side and spins the nun chukkas......its a real bit of humor...:D Last year he almost got a farting gnome but they sold out.....hahahahaa

- Adrian ya it is quite contrasty on a second look but I wanted a nice deep effect with just little light,I might play with that a bit yet.

Thanks Michaeli

Ya I want caustics but I need a volumetric light, which I have, and I need a reflective material, but I cant work out where to put the reflective material,I have even tried light gels

Looks great, although a bit low key as already stated - you might want to try and put the refrac on the bubble texture pretty low, maybe 1.05 instead of what you'd normally use for water and high transp so the volume light has less 'grab' on the spheres

Thanks Mike  ....I have a new render to do tonight :)

Thanks creart :) - I did away with the bubbles and decided on small fish instead. With the bubbles I realized the only place bubbles would come from is the Whales lungs as air is expelled,or from something like a volcanic crack in the sea floor,so I decided my bubbles didnt look right.

The new render has a lot more overall light and wont need much Photoshop this time.

How can I get an emitter to send particles say along an S shaped orientation?,what I want is for it to look like all the little fishies have been cruising along and then they see the whale and do a runner in all directions with the back of the bunch still tightly together.

Thanks

Stu.

Are you using version 7 or 8?

Id try the flow plugin from Paul everett, it places spheres the the particals flow arround. ill see if uit works in v8.

Hey Stu

post the new image soon!!! wonder how it'll look!

there are lots of tutorials on that particle topic; you have to use the PSurfacePosition node to put particles on any shape you want

you could have look at a quick tut I've put in my thread about 'Neon Tube using Thinking Particles'

Nope dosent work in version8 (bummer).

I quess in TP will be the answer :-) just neeed to no where to look.

Yep, I guess you'll just have to use Thinking Particles and (something I will have to try myself) maybe you can use morphtargets on the surface the particles will connect to, to change the shape of the 'school of little fishies'

Thanks guys

I am still using 7 Mike even though I have 8 :hmm: ..my graphics card doesnt seem to be able to keep up with 8 and I have this hideous delay before my camera rotates or I can select a point...drove me nuts so I re installed 7 until I get a new puter in the next few months.

The flow plugin I will go and have a nosey for it :D

I will do tonights render anyway and then play with the emitters tomorrow think.

Hi Stu

maybe what you can try is using a whole bunch of deflectors to 'lead the way' for the particles - set those up on both sides of the s-shape you want and you might get the effect you want...

I don't think that the particles will be influenced by an FFD-deformer although you could give it a go too...

cheers

No re working old files is actually empowering because you can see where you have improved and what you can do differently. My next file will be that sci fi city of mine...that will be fun {much sarcasm} :)

The plants are spheres matrix extruded and then had an FFD applied to bend the leaves like water flowing over them :)
