Hi, im trying to make a little video of a swinging sable laser but i do something wrong, I follow this tutorial:

http://ryanw.michaelfrisk.com/ryan-w/tutorials_sabers.html

The problem is when i apply color to the aura, it seems that i do something wrong because i cant see the white in the center's lightsable.
Anyway, if someone can explain it step by step i would apreaciate it cos' this tutorial isnt very good.

Or at least a tutorial step by step.

Thanks

...step by step?
Isn't that what that tutorial does?

Hmm.

Anyway.

Ryan also has a video tutorial - watch it, you should be able to see what you're doing wrong.

I always just used Photoshop. . . I think it's easier than keyframing masks. What's wrong with the tutorial, though? It looks plenty detailed to me.

OK i finally made it, i found a very good spanish tutorial, well explained. One thing, do the professionals make those effects with all the stick or just the handle. Because if i want to make a sequence where i "open" the lightsaber and then i want to do some tricks, i need only the handle. IS there a mode to open the lightsaber and do some moves. Cos then i wont be able to see where the sable stick ends...

thanks

Use the stick when filming so you know where the blade goes once extended. Just animate a mask to reveal the blade when you turn the saber on.

You might want to look at this thread: http://boards.theforce.net/fan_films/b10015/22268323/p1/?73. The "how-do-I-make-a-lightsaber" question has been covered in great detail on that forum. . .

Yah, i was just playing around with some saber efx, and i'm surprised how well AfterEffects can create these effects. Personally, for my video i used Ryan's tutorial, but incase you're looking for an alternative style, here's one that's more about simulating the style from Episodes 2 and 3. This one wasn't written with the greatest grammar, but you get the idea.
