Hi, I'm currently experimenting with the new tools available in max (hair and cloth) as a learning project. I’m building an office worker who would be sitting at a desk, which I intend to dress using the new cloth system, but I am not sure if it will be able to do what I require.

My plan is to have my figure wearing a simple white shirt (with collar). It will not be buttoned up fully at the neck, and I want it to be tucked into a skirt. I don’t really need the skirt to be simulated as it will be below the desk. (I might not even model the legs at the moment as you will not see them from the view). Oh, and it will be animated on a biped as well (mostly arm movement).

So I’ve looked at the examples that come with max, and done some searching on this forum. But I’m still not sure how I’d go about it. I think the most difficult part in my mind will be having the shirt tucked into the figures dress.

Does anyone know if / how it would be possible? also, if anyone has any good links to tutorials, or hints and tips in using cloth. Or am I being too ambitious? Are there going to be too many problems using cloth, and maybe I should just model something and not animate it.

Thanks in advance,

Gout.

Having the shirt tucked in is actually fairly simple. Once you have your shirt local simmed, grab a selection of verts in the cloth modifier that would be tucked into pants. Make a group out of them, and set their U and V scale values to .9 or .85 or something in that area. Also, set the group to Sticky Surface. Then, just sim local damped and it should give at least decent results. You may have to play with it some to get the perfect settings, just don't get discouraged. Oh, and make sure EVERYTHING is to scale. You can change the scale setting within cloth, but its so much easier to just model to scale. :buttrock:
