View Full Version : curve handles...
[DTZ] 12-10-2002, 10:14 PM Hi, I posted this a few days ago, was emailed of a reply., the link to the reply nolonger exists?!.... sooo... :)
I've broken the tangent handles on a rotation curve (in curve editor), i'm wanting to make this handle continuous again, any ideas how to do this?
Thanks again! :)

Set the key to Linear and then back to Bezier?

HI BrandonD,
Thanks for the quick reply! :) You mean do this (from the help)...
''Converting a discontinuous tangent to a continuous tangent requires changing the tangent type from Custom to Smooth and back to Custom again. This technique is performed at the key level and can affect unselected vertices if they belong to the same key as one of the selected vertices.''
..if so, i'e tried this, but as soon as i change back to custom, and try moving the handles, the tangent becomes discontinuous again?!
Any ideas?

Hi [DTZ]! Sounds like you have your tangent lock turned off. Here is the user guide verbage on what it does.
Lock button—When on, changing one Custom tangent changes the other by equal but opposite amount. For example, if the Lock button is on and the In value is 0.85, then the Out value is -0.85.
Make sure to hit the advanced button to expand your key properties out to see this lock info for your current keyframe. Then, look at your tangent lock button to see if it is not engaged. Though I do not know how it could become turned off because it is always turned on by default, but funkier things have happened in Max for me over the years, so who knows?
Anyway, check this button and see if it is turned off and if so turn it back on to lock the tangent so it does not become discontinuous again.
Hope this helps.

That's sorted it! Cheers!
I hold shift+move handle to break the tangent.. this was turning off the 'lock'.
So now I'm simply changing tangent back to auto and setting lock on. :)
Incidently(sp?) is there anyway to have the advanced key properties dialogue always open when i right-click on a key?
Thanks again to you both for the help!!
