View Full Version : Any hints for merging rendersliced images?
JoelOtron 02-13-2006, 11:39 PM I sporadically netrender stills using the 25 tile camera object or TimCs renderlicer.
Is there a tried and true method of removing each slice from the file and merging with the composite image, without having those fuzzy pixel halos? I wind up spending post time blurring, stamping or painting the horizontal lines out.
TIA

joel,
is there overlap in tim's render slicer?
i don't remember seeing this behavior in the maxon tiled camera - is it possible that tims camera is aliasing the edges?

Hey Dann
Tim's uses a hard alpha channel with the gradient shader it seems. I think part of the problem in the current case, is the size of the render--it was only standard NTSC and 72 DPI--which was part of the problem I suppose.
I havent mastered the 25 tile camera--I always seem to screw it up. I once had to render a large image (maybe 4000 pixels wide) and used the 25 tile object for it. Worked great BUT each tile was 4000 pixels. DOH! So I usually use Tims renderslicer because I dont seem to have that problem.
But in general, I find that I usually have to work into any image after merging slices.

Thats strange... I do tiled renders all the time and I haven't encountered that problem... The only thing I've come across is before merging the slices in photoshop I often see very thin lines between the image slices... I used to think there were slight gaps between the images but upon further inspection it was just a glitch in Photoshops previewing function... At %25 %33 %66 etc the lines would appear but at %50 or %100 they would not... Suffice to say there were no gaps and it was just a display issue... Even so merging the slices will cause the gaps to dissapear no matter what the image preview size.

THANKS!
I was wondering about that too! I often see those lines--thet dissapera depending on how zoomed in or out I am and was hoping it was just an illusion. So its good to know that they dont show up in the merged image. Dont do this too much--once every few months or so--and usually in a rush to do it so havent really worked it all out.

There is a good tiled camera info here regarding the output size:

joel i'm guessing you're not using any postfx in your renders but thought i'd mention it just in case.

Thanks Lennart (edit--I mixed your nameup b4)--helpful. That info makes sense.
The reason I liked Tims renderlicer was that one wouldnt have to worry about calcualting render size--but once I remembered I still knew how to do a little math, then it all was clear.
@flingster--it wasnt a post fx prob--thanks. I was rendering lower res images than I should have--plus it seems Tims slicer antialiases the edges of the tiles--the 25 tile camera object doesnt--since it renders to the edge of each full frame.
