ok, so i'm posting for the second time, since my previous post on the same subject just dissapeared, anyways...

this is my problem, i'm using max 5, and lately, everytime i try and render something, even if its in the small 'environment, auto exposure' render preview...my max shuts down as soon as the render is finished, any ideas???
this is annoying and any help/ideas would be great

Neil's got a good little essay about solving these kinds of problems...

wow, nice..
so i read his ideas, and i was surprised that i never thought of going step by step until i found out what was wrong with my scene...
anyways, i created a simple scene which rendered w/o problems. and then i added raytrace into the 'reflection' map for the object in my scene, which was a simple plane, and guess what, my max crashed! so now i gotta figure out why it crashes whenever i have a ratracable object in my scene.!

so if anyone has an opinion on that, i'd be even more greatful...but big thanks to you Brandon!!

I stopped using any raytracing materials in my scenes, and my rendering worked fine for a few hours, but now the program started crashing again. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is this time. Any more ideas from anyone??

do you have shag :hair in the scene? shag hair, as i painfully found out in a situation similar to yours, crashes the renderer as it doesnt play well with the raytracer.

anyways, i also found that digipserve was causing some issues for me with this particular situation.

if not, it still soudns like aplug in collision.

well the thing is that i do have shag fur program/plug-ins installed but i didn't use it in this scene, so i dont think it is causing the crashes currently, but now that you mention shag fur, i remember that these crashes started shortly after i installed it.

Either way, i am reinstalling my max, so hopefully, there wont be any more crashing, besides the microsoft's windows OS, but thats a different story. :annoyed:

anyway, thanks for your opinion!
