View Full Version : Batch render mental ray
CoreyJAvitar 02-13-2006, 09:59 PM Hi all, sorry about the elementary question, but when I try to perform a batch render with mental ray, I get black images. They render out and all, it's just that they render really fast and contain nothing but black.
grrr.
If someone has a magic solution, please answer.
well, actually any answer at all would be appreciated.
Thanks
Murphy
*Edit* Ok, the same thing happens with the maya software renderer.
Just black images!

Do you have the correct camera set? Are there lights in your scene?
Apparently batch rendering isn't supported in MR unless you have a standalone version, pretty crap for a highend renderer but there you go. You can get some batch functions to work for stills but i haven't had any luck with sequences when i'm queing multiple jobs up.
There probably is some way around this but i mainly do stills so i havenlt bothered to find out. G'luck

you also should also check if your objects and lights are correctly linked to the lightLinker node..

This is simply not true. Batch rendering is fully supported in MR for Maya on all platforms. As is satellite rendering. You can start a render from the Maya batch render command, from the command line or from a 3rd party render manager.
If you are rendering black images I would suspect you are missing a light in your scene. Try rendering a scene with MR not using the default lights.
