Hello, this is my shader reel of sorts. I'd love to hear critiques and feedback if you got the time. There are two versions: one big, one small. They are encoded in h.264, so a media player capable of playing h.264 content is required (Quicktime 7 for example).

640x480 mp4 (22M) (http://www.pixelheretic.com/files/Shaders.mp4)
320x240 mov (6M) (http://www.pixelheretic.com/files/Shaders_half_size.mov)

Hey DaJuice, great stuff, love that rocky ground shader, keep up the good work

hmm... your encoding on the video could use some work. quality breaks down during motion. what was your compression?
it's difficult to offer comments on the vid because of it.
the stills look good, though. maybe more detail on the ground that the tree is on.

Thanks for the comments guys. :)

Zerflag, I don't have too much experience encoding stuff, and this is the first time I've tried h.264 encoding. I used Quicktime7 Pro, I forget exactly what settings. The larger version actually doesn't even play remotely smooth on my comp (ancient P3 800mhz), but I thought the quality looked ok when I scrubbed through it. For what it's worth, the four images posted are part of the image sequence used for the vid, and not seperate renders.
Can anyone else comment on the quality of the encoding? If it's that bad maybe I should redo it...

Bit more info: Except for the thorns on the tree, which are bitmaps, everything is procedural. Details come from displacement, for example, all the rocks and pebbles on the dirtground come from the shader.

Great job.
I think the reel is abit short but hey it is a personal taste.
Good luck with your job searching.:D

A little short but very good.

Awesome!
I agree with -Sai- regarding the length...
Other than that, impressive!

The tree is soooo apealing in its render, I heard Houdini was something extraordinary but never had the chance to play around with it.

Nice one.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments. :)
I do agree about the length, I almost feel loathe to even call it a reel.

It might be just my machine but I found the large version choppy. Using QuickTime 7.0.4 on a dual P4 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM.

That is strange.I have p4 2.53 with fedora Core 4 and played it on mplayer and it works perfectly fine.

Hmm, I thought that h.264 decoding was just really cpu intensive, but maybe QT7 has poorer playback?
