Our scaled drawings (example, 1/4"/ft. or 20mm/m) enter C4D via the nifty VW>C4D plugin. I have not gone full scale in C4D because the beauty of the VW/C4D plug is I can make changes/additions and drop them in at the exact 3D location where needed – painlessly. This M~R thread, http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10947&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0, makes me wonder about the importance of scale in C4D, especially with materials, lighting (falloff, future IES), DOF, etc. I remember a few stray comments in the past but do not have time for lengthy research.

The question: are there known "real" problems using scaled down modeling in C4D?

I am doing this and have no major problems. Stay with procedurals as much as possible.
The european community did get even with the English on measurements however, metric measuremets can go very small, but measurements below inches have to be handled decimally.

Actually C4D does everything in "units" and couldn't care less what we use.

@Knotian, yep, I am going full scale. One recent issue involved SPD for a rug. The settings worked fine at f.s. but at the reduced scale, hours spent with the settings = zip. Also, other materials did not work and camera location/movement has been an issue related, I believe, to scaled down projects/objects.

F.S. also seems best because I believe C4D will work towards M~R reality and with IES a possibility and unknown future enhancements, I need to change over.

Apparently, full scale and scaled down (1/4"=1') objects are imported into C4D at the same scale.

Certain effects (like subsurface scattering) are scale-dependent, but for those effects, maintaining a consistent scale is generally more important than what that scale is, specifically.

FWIW I've done some experimenting with the measure tool in C4D v9.5 on objects taken in and out via the Allplan plug-in and via XML export back.
For some reason setting units to cm in C4D makes the measurements the same in both apps - for me anyway (we work in mm in UK construction  )
