Hello, not really new around here, but haven't really posted much. gonna try to get myself to post somethin everyday, if i can't make somethin new for the day well... i'll just post some oldies heheh till i run out :P here are some more recent stuff that i'm workin on here and there, and hope to finnish someday. c&c would be much appreciated, and paintovers even mor e welcome :P Actually did a sketchbook thread over at CA.org, but dang theres so much traffic there heheh, kept bein bumped down so didn't really get much critiques and inputs.

heres an orc warrior type dude, face was done in zbrush2 demo (no save feature....) so i decided to bring it over to photoshop for some quick character concept.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/cok3y/orc.jpg

heres a speedy over the wip, 2 versions. one with a helmet (which looked better zoomed out than the orc face) and one with the face and more details. lemme know which u guys prefer and i might let go o the face (even tough i've grown attatched to it... :( )

helmet

no helmet

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/cok3y/hulk2.jpg

heres the zbrush base
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/cok3y/hulkz.jpg

Hey, some great stuff here! Awesome to see the Bob Kato stuff here, I had him as an instructor back in my Art Center days...or was it daze? :)

At any rate, will definitely be following this thread, and pop by the Anatomy Forum when you get the chance!

Cheers, :)

I've always liked really sketchy works. It amazes me how you can be so loose with the brushwork but still produce a legible image.

Your raugh direct style is wonderful, I love your choice for colours and the use of strokes.

Lovely orc dude
(I love very much the portrait in acquagreen colour)

sh@ke - thx man, spooge inspired? heheh i dunno man, wouldn't wanna make him look bad :P Nywayz, so u like the helmet version eh? dang... i just can't let go o that face though, guess i'll have to make 2 versions. Ur doin well urself :P finnish the horseman dude! i beg u! great work on the mononoke by the way.

CuirassYuan - thz for the kind words, actually the sketchy feeling is just my lazyness :P I'm tryin my best to actually make a finnished piece but it's proved harder than i thought. speedy's transform to neverending wips :P heheh

Rebeccak - thanks for the comments. Wow, thats great to hear that u had him as an instructor! Who's daze by the way, if you don't mind me askin? Been a fan of ur anatomy stuff here in cgtalk, i've read a lot of em, but haven't really gotten myself to take time and study anatomy. Anywayz i'll hope i can fight away my lazyness and get myself to pop by the anatomy forum more often (and actually post... :P)

Mindofka - thank u for your kind words. i hope i can get myself to finnish the orc dude. those portraits in acquagreen colour are actually study's (most ar copies) of bob kato's step by step portrait dvd.

PS_Mouse - Thank u, hehehe. those loose brushworks are actually attempts to cover up my horrible drawings underneath :)

gonna be away for the weekend, so i guess i'll post some "semi-old" stuff tday. step by steps. hope guys enjoy. c&c's always welcome, and paintovers would be great :)

i pretty much prefer to go straight into painting than refining the sketch, so i probly spend around 2 minutes of sketching and the rest goes into painting and tweaking while painting. not the usual way of doin thing i know, but due to my limited drawing ability this is what's worked for me for the moment.

anyway, u r improving lots!

cok3
03-19-2006, 03:42 AM
thx kinomoto! i don't really sketch on paper/pencil first since i'm a bit lazy to scan it afterwards, i usually just go straight in photoshop or painter since i'm actually more used to the wacom tablet than traditional media.

she is seriously too beautiful not to capture :)

This was the only one I had cok -- I just nabbed it browsing one day.

can I ask you a question? How you handled her hair -- I really like that. How did you do that? I see some eraser work, but there is like this cool textured opacity.... I just love how that looks.

cok3
12-02-2006, 03:06 PM
i didn't really have a real systematic method when doing this portrait. I sometimes like to copy merged the whole image and see what happens. Kinda had an appy accident when i set it to linear doge or something. Loved the pinkish shadows so i decided to accentuate that more. Some areas like the hair weren't working that well (too dark) so I slowly erased to the underlying layer. Sometimes i use a pretty large brush, set it to color blending and put some strokes near the edges of her hair to add some sort of lighting effect. Just play around with the brush and layer blending modes the opacities of those layers. happy accidents are bound to happen. Thanks for dropping by my thread.

Hi, thought I'd check out your thread. Some great stuff. I like the scythe pic in post 24, namely how it glowed around the "scythe". And I especially loved the second image in 34, I think you did a great job adapting the source and keeping in the spirit and all that. Lastly, I just love all the textures. I have yet to get the nerve to practice digital, but to have textures in my pieces like they are in yours are something I hope to get.

stuh505 - thanks bro, glad you like my sketches and the portrait. Yeah come to think of it the djinn guy looks almost exactly like staples pic hahah, especially the face. Kind of a consequense of lookin at too much reference i guess hahah. Loves staples work though man such a big inspiration. His recent Warcraft card illustrations are awesome!

Asatira - thanks for the comment on the scyth pic. Will be glad to share any techniques on textures like you mentioned however do keep in mind that most o these are actually purely accidental. I have started labeling my layers properly now to prevent happy accidents from being forgotten. So whatever I know I'll be glad to share (I don't like keepin secrets).

Mike - yo dude thanks for the heads up, well hope i can keep improvin man, lookin forward to doin som collabs with ya someday. And yeah, do try to finnish that horesman bro, i know its still in the sketch stages but even then it keeps knockin my socks off.. cheers man, cya around

Great new stuff Jose. I find the faces to be the most awesome. Just very beautiful. And in this last one all the chaos around the face crates a nice feeling.
The revisited characters are good, only a bit hard to read. For example if someone would have to turn them into 3d. Well, you get the idea. The silhouettes read very well though and I find that sketchy look pleasurable.

Hey, and post more!
