View Full Version : cpu jump in max 8
prox-emics 02-11-2006, 08:04 PM I've recently noticed that when using 3ds max 8 with my quadro fx 3450 (using open gl) there is a jump in my cpu usage whnever I drag/rotate my scene. I'v tested it on multiple scenes, and even with low poly counts I get the same problem. The cpu jumps up to 50-52% usage. I just installed the new 82 nvidia driver thinking that it would solve the problem, but no. I have read some other posts on here about the same type of issue and most said to just get the new 82. drivers, but that did not work for me. thanks.
I have dual amd 248's and the quadro fx 3450.

So what is the problem? When you navigate your 3D scene, your computer is using the cpu, I fail to see how you think this is a bad thing. Its like saying you think your car is broken because the engine makes a noise when you rev it.

It jumps up to just over 50% when Im rotating scenes with any amount of polygons, 50 or 50,000. On the systems at school, which are single intel xeons and fx 1400s, I can navigate the scenes with no problem. It just doesnt seem right to me. It could be my mistake, but it seems like it should run a little more smoothly.

are you using software, direct3d, or opengl mode while running max?

Try disabling Triangle Strips

I have a 7800GTX 256 MB and doing so made the rotation faster both in OGL and DX.
