Hi there,

I was wondering how one can use the framebuffers in MentalRay without having to use the ctrl_buffers shader for example. Isn't it possible to write out buffers just by making some connections in Maya? Or are special output shaders and stuff like that necessary?

In the MentalRay Render Globals one can find several checkable user framebuffers. But how can I assign something to them?

I am very interested in an alternative to ctrl_buffers, so that I am not skrewed, when a new Maya version will be realeased and ctrl_buffers will not be delevoped any further (well, it might happen!). At work for example I am working with Maya 7.0.1 and ctrl_buffers don't work with 7.0.1. Now it would be great to get framebuffers working with just the built in MentalRay stuff. It should be possible ... shouldn't it?

Any ideas or hints?

Thanks a lot in advance

yep have fun writing your own output pass shader... I spent several days messing with maya to get something similar, won't happen. As far as upgrading to new versions...thats why there's such as thing as locking on a particular software for a project.
