darkmonth 12-10-2002, 03:59 PM When in bloodun' 'ecks name is Character Studio 4 coming out?!!! I've been waiting patiently and they said November was the projected release date. November came and went and no sign. Fine, all fair enough, but not even an update on its progress!!!
Anyone know any more about it?

They said at a defy reality show that sometime in Dec there going to release CS4 and an update to max... 5.1 maybe. Not sure about the point part. I guess the max update is pretty decent.

There was a post on the webboard that said January, but it wasn't an official post from Discreet, so take it with a grain of salt. I think this is going to be the single biggest release so far.

Have you seen a preview of it or something?
Can anyone give me a link to what the updates will do/include?
Thanks,

Here's the announcement from SIGGRAPH...

Of note, the quaternion function curves are a very big deal. From what they showed at SIGGRAPH, this is not a simple Euler/Quat conversion like the other packages tend to use, but a new visualization system. In fact I seem to remember seeing quite a bit more than just tranform info in there. There was some system that visualized angular velocity and could detect spikes in mocap data. CS has had NLA through the motion flow editor for several years now, but the new video editing-style UI they showed was really cool.
I'm not even a character guy and I'm still excited.
