View Full Version : Position Constraint on an object who's had its pivot moved...
geoff3dnz 02-11-2006, 03:05 PM I'm trying to set up a position constraint between a null constrained to an object. The object has had its pivot moved to a particular place. When the object is rotated, the null moves - which it shouldn't with a position constraint. If I reset the object's pivot back to 0,0,0, the constraint works as expected. How do I get around this? I don't want the object's pivot at 0,0,0... or am I missing something?

It shouldn't move, I doubt the problem is with the center. I couldn't replicate that situation with within several tries so the problem is probably elsewhere. What else do you have going on?

Instead of moving the pivot, try moving the object center and see if that give you the result you are looking for.

Edit:
Yes, the null should move, because its position is related to the objects center, so when you pivot or rotate an object where the center is not, then the center is getting translated through space, and the center is what the null follows on a position constraint. Hope that makes whats happening more clear.

Wops, I thought he was talking about center (i evern said center in my previous psot, doh). In my workflow I almost always consider the center to be my pivot. I almost never use actual pivots in xsi other than the pivot tool for transformations and perhaps for certain cases when animating.
Sorry if I confused anyone.
