Hi guys, been getting really annoyed with the lastest Ati drivers lately.
I installed some of the newest ones (6.2) recently with the new catalyst control center thing, but ended up uninstalling it as it was a really slow resource hog and places an annoying shortcut in my right-click desktop menu.
So after installing I went back tot the site and installed the "display drivers only" thinking it would go back to the old style simple settings from display properties>advanced.

I was shocked to see there are now no settings at all now! This really annoyed me as it seems they are now forcing this horrible catalyst thing upon us.

Is there any way to get my old control panel back without reverting to previous drivers or using catalyst?

Please, no "Ati sucks, nvidia is best etc etc" posts please

Personally if find this control pannel useless... i set all the (two or three things) options long ago, and didnt have any need to change anything since then.

Unless you have a dual moniotr setup try not instaling the control panel, or you can disable the utility starting with windows in msconfig (Start => Run => type "msconfig" and press enter). Or it should be disable within some graphics tab in control panel.

You can't use the old panel anymore its gone. They phased it out a while ago so if you can use an older driver and it works well with the card you might consider that. Otherwise you can do what I do. I still have it install since some of the features are nessisary for you to get the control of it, but disable it from booting at startup (since it eats quiet a bit of ram up let alone time starting it up). Its called CLI.exe (disable that using the msconfig as explained above).

But also I'm using 3rd party software to help overcome from really ever installing CCC again since its adding more features that does the same tweaking as in CCC. ATITool is the one I use, but theres also RivaTuner if not mistaken that what its called that does similar and has alot more features then CCC ever does, with of course zero slow down.

Oh ya also theres 2 services you can disable also if you don't use CCC's Overdrive. If you have them you can disable these..
Ati HotKey Poller
ATI Smart
If you know how to do this right click on "My Computer" then "Manage" go down to "Services and Applications" and click on "Services". Over on the right side you'll see a list and it should be at the top if listed alphabetically. Right click on them go to properties and set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled". That will also speed up boots and is 2 unessisary services that run with the cards if you don't use the overdrive function for the cards to boost preformance. If you want to you can still disable them and use a third party application to get the same preformance also.

You could try this one:

Unofficial Catalyst 6.2 with Control Panel

Haven't try it myself though.
