Thanks Dimitris for adding us to the challenge.
I was afraid of being too late because yesterday was the official deadline for entering
and it was a very spontanous decision to participate.
R : A : D , now it´s your turn to come up with some cool concept art !!
You are among the best 2d guys I personally know, so I´d likely won´t be dissapointed ;)

Oh, am I in trouble?
Ok, here it is:
It`s definitely not the final pose, but something like that...

Well, I think we´re heading into the right direction.
But she needs definitively a bigger gun!
What about adding some cool mech robots into the background?

I would suggest neither. I think the size of the gun is nice, as you would loose the iron of the cutesy key-chain otherwise. And mechs would be too cliche, and besides you've got this wonderful isolation right now, that emphasizes the exploration while at the same time drawing in the element of self-discovery on the part of your subject.
The only change I'd suggest to your composition is to position her head so that it emphasizes her looking into the proverbial abyss (which we all know is staring right back at her).
I love what you've got so far, this is going to rock in 3D
Noren
02-16-2006, 09:57 PM
I almost started to worry ;), but that last sketch is just great!
In addition to Lord Dubu's comment I would say that it would be perhaps nice to see a bit more of the abyss or the opening/mine to the right, in case that is supposed to be one.
And yeah, 3d will definately rock! :D

Next one:
Experiments with the pose.

But this is still nothing final.
I just love this coincidental snapshot character from the first (colored) pic.

Ok, that`s it, I guess.

in my opinion 1c is better positionwise
She seams to have the control on decending down the slope . the others its like she trys to come down but she is about to fall . great sketches btw . love the character. reminds me of tank girl :D
harly
02-20-2006, 12:24 PM
My favourite pose is 1a, but 1c works also well.
I don´t like the last pose, it looks awkward and she seems rather uncomfartable.
IMO it´ts rather important to develop the character first and than working on the pose.
I need some detailed concept sketches as modeling reference.
R:A:D
02-21-2006, 10:37 PM
First modeling reference:
http://www.drudeart.net/zeug/Expolo_lay_07.jpg
Let me guess what you think, more skin, less fabric and more space-attachments....
harly
02-21-2006, 11:01 PM
That´s not bad Andi.
I love the boots and those parachute strap-like belts.
But what the heck, why did you gave her those parka sleeves?
I´d prefer her with naked arms.
And she looks quite older than I imagined her.
And where are my "space-attachments" ?? ;)

I absolutely adore the euro-styling here. I grew up in Germany and Belgium, and this takes me back to my childhood.

Lord Dubu thanx for your support.
Seems your the only one who understand what I am doing here and keeps me away from sfi cliches...

i think she looks amazing and i think that you should give your partner some credit. you are been to hursh imho. great job R:A : D :D

Ah well Agamemnwn, he is used to my harsh comments
I often wander to his desk, stick my head over his shoulder and yell:
What the hell ist that??? LOL
R:A:D
02-25-2006, 02:07 PM
OK, last one:
A member of a squadron of female nihilistic, arrogant prostitute merchenarios is serchin her victim.
Enjoy!

great concept art ! i love the style, and yup, i like the parka sleeves :) Think pose 1a works best. Your last concept is also great, but reminds me alot of the "mech girl" in the 3D wip section. Can't wait to see all of this finished.

We decide to cancel the Mechlady Idea and go on with the older "Euro Lady". Because it s more about explore something unknown then huntig some victim.

02-26-2006, 03:26 PM
Hi Andi,
I like your latest concepts, the mech warrior lady is also cool, but the original idea about the girl descending the abyss is beteer.
Tomorrow I`ll start modeling the girl, but afterwards I´d also like work on the mech warrior lady, too.
Could you alsp post some concept of the weapons, the pistol and the rifle gun? Thanks

Thanks Andi.
Here I am posting an early stage of the headmodel, there is still much tweaking required.
And the ears are still undefined ( I hate modelling ears ! ).
I just wanted to show someting before I am heading to London, spending some vacation days there.
Next update will be not before next week!

Lookin really great!
But you can put the bellybutton a little bit higher.
harly

++UPDATE++
The legs are slightly longer now and the bellybutton has been moved upwards.
I´ve also modelled the weapons.
http://www.magicalmisfits.de/cgtalk/body_wip_05.jpg
That's a sweet model. Awesome job! Pretty poly-efficient, too, as it seems. Nothing much to criticize from me. Except, maybe, that her knee needs a little more love. Cheers, O.

Looking excellent !
It seems like the modeling-stage is finished.
I have to agree with odf about the knee, though.
This is looking realy good you guys!

***UPDATE***
The last update has been a while ago.
I was occupied with other things.
UV´s are done, model is rigged , here are some posing tests.
The skinning has still to be refined at some body parts ( knee, crotch..)
The background is a mattepainting provided by Andi ( RAD )

Deadline has been extended. ;)
Looking excellent !
I like the rightmost pose the most, but the leftmost fits better into the image.
Background is looking great, also.

Thanks Noren for your support!:)
I also think pose 1 or something similar works best.
Here is a simple colortest, just plain lambert shading.

Very nice !
Looking forward what you will be doing with lights and colors in order to match it to the background.
One small critique:
The forms/stripes of the kneepad and the round opening/lattice in the background behind it are quite similar and the eye jumps back and forth between them.

++UPDATE++
The 3d part ist finished so far, we´re now trying to integrate the figure into the background.
There is still a lot of work to do, the lighting has to be adjusted and the matte painting is
still WIP.
The lighting here ist very diffuse with only few shadows, color correction will be done in Photoshop.
