Hi there, it's been a looong time, no? Well, thought I'd post a pic of something I'm working on for fun and to practice my texturing on. It's my version of a Balrog, not an exact replica from the film but as close as I could get Rhino's nurbs to take me right now.

As you can tell, neither model is exactly finished yet. I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that had some different angles of teeth? I tried making some for the Balrog but they all looked like spikes too me. Well, I'm off to give him propper eyes and eyelids now. Thanks in advance.

Looks nice!

I really dig the first one since it reminds me a lot of the "Balrog" in "Lord of the Rings". The purple dude doesn't get me going but looks cool too.

Cheers

Just getting back in. I must thank you all for the kind words. Raul! What up bud! Thanks for the pep, I'll be sure to work on him alot as I have the rest of the week off.

Sangotten, thanks. It doesn't look like the sketch Idrew from the maquette for the Balrog either though I'm glad you think it's close enough. I'm going to do another one after I finish this so I can try and get the mouth area right.

Gotham, thanks bunches.

No time to work on it much as I am a little busy with other things but I managed to detail the neck a little, and some teeth and eyelids. I also fixed the position of the horns and how they blended to the head.

I also started this poor man's version of the Cave Troll. Though I don't have any usable head shots, so I'll be using a concept sketch thst wasn't used from the "Art Of" book for the movie. Modeled in Rhino with a really basic procedural map applied in Flamingo.

Your balrog is awesome looking, looks very scary! Have you checked out the balrog thread on 3Dtotal?

Not happy with the shoulders so I'll have to work on 'em some later. Have to make a loincloth for this guy.

But not too much. :) Here we have my choice of heads. I'm not sure which I want to go with. As I said, I'm not shooting for total accuracy but I want something similar. Suggestions?

yeah, first one, but fix his lower jaw first ;)
Looks a bit like a ducks snout, needs to fit better on the upper jaw.

Thanks! I'll get on it right away! Just letting you know I went with the second head because a few folks pointed out the first head made him look like ET on steroids.

Just letting you know I finished the cave troll as best I could for now. The link is here :Cave Troll. (http://home.att.net/~teyon.25/models/troll2.jpg)

hey, the cave troll model is looking good, just a few comments. If you are going for the kind of chubby look of the film, then exaggerate the love handles, and remove that V-shape he has going. Also try to make more subtle transitions from muscle to muscle (like from the pectoral to the deltoid). Perhaps the pectorals could be enlarged? they look a little small for that body size......:buttrock: :airguitar

hey! Thanks for the tip. I'll try to find some time in the future to go bakc and tweak the model more.

Thanks, yeah, the nose is just a little too high. Too bad I can't fix it now. :( It'll have to wait until next month. Thanks again.

The first balrog head was really good, but was looking kinda kiddy. The second one was a really big improvement. He look more realistic and frightening now:buttrock:

Keep up the great 3D art!:D
