Hi all!

This is my first post/submition to the forum. I'm working on a (very) short animation on my spear time and the story goes like this...a guy (thinking is all treandy and cool) walks down this road and stops to look at his reflection on a office window, his own reflection gets well pissed off and slaps him big time. all this will make more sense when I upload a little clip later today. the biggest chalange is to composite the cartoon character into a live action plate and work out the reflections.
comments and sugestion very much welcome.
cheers

Like woah! That is a awesome idea for a short film. Wish I would have thought of it :)

The look is cool too reminds me of that old Micheal Jackson Video with the claymation.

Lets see the short already :scream:

As promised, here is the 1st animation test, there is some pretty obvious timing issues that I have to sort right away, but the idea is there.
Please let me know your thougths.
Cheers

How are you going to convey that the guy finds himself trendy, and that he is slapping himself for that reason?

I dont really like the slap...I think something like a dope slap upside the head would be funnier...

Just MO..........

cheers pals!

yep good point, wont be easy as he apears sudenly from the side and with his back turned to the camera, but a bit of a bouncy walk and the clothes he's wearing should make the trick, probably will give him a different hair style as well, some 80's style mullet should get his reflection pretty pissed off, i guess.:buttrock:

I agree, I'm gonna have the reflection guy to jump over and kick da s##t out of the guy and then just walk away.
first I just wanted to get the reflections, shadows, camera match and and all the compositing right, but now, I'm starting to like it, so I'll carry on and give a little plot to the thing.
cheers

what about a zoom on the character when his reflect get on him

would be nice but would mean go back with Dv cam and shoot the all thing again, as my footage now is still, and the match the camera, lights reflection plate and so on all over again, so i guess i'll keep it just as it is.
thanks anyways.;)

DON'T CELL SHADE THIS

the pic looks good but i think the animation needs work (i know it's not finished - sorry) maybe have a little swagger to his walk and hands in pockets

Thanks a lot guys!

Yep edady, I'm not planing to use cel shading and as u say the animation need (a lot) of work, gonna call it a day, just worked on it for 8 hours nonstop, I need a rest from the monitor.
i've attached the preview render of what i did today, still too messy, needs some clean up, but that will be left for tomorrow if the hungover I'm planing to have will let me anyhere near the computer.
nice weekend everyone!

Hey !!

Excellent movement, very funny :)

but (i got a but...), IMHO i think that at the last moment when the guy from the mirror jumps, it would be much realistic with more speed..

Good work, go on , want to see the following... :applause:

Thanks insseuv, i've tryed to speed up the jump, but it may need a bit more of snap movement.
Havent done much during the weekend, here is a little update that I managed to get done today, also been trying to play with some morph targets for the jacket and shirt (not very visible in the very compressed clip).

Cheers

I think it needs a bit more speed. And by the way...It would be cool when he shakes his head while hes going away, like: "What a looser!":bounce:

Good Job so far:beer:

I like the subject matter. The background plate is great for what you're trying to do.

I would prefer to see the inconspicuous slap versus the total a$$ kicking, but that's a personal preference. Although in my opinion, it's more impressive to pull off subtlety well than just gratuitous violence - as funny as it can be to people ;)

The flying kick definately needs more speed. Keep in mind the transfer of weight - the reflection guy is using the window mullion to pull himself up. Think of the movement as more of a pendulum or a ball being tossed in the air. He accelerates up, floats for a moment, then accelerates down even faster. These are all things, I'm sure you know, but it always helps to get reassurance from others - I can vouge for that.

Good luck!

Oh check out my WIP below, it's very similar...

slooper : ye I guess I got a bit carried away by the all kick ass thing :hmm: , but now I have done all that animation that would be a waste not to use it, I guess (sugestions please)
Tommy Lee : I thought of that as well, will be on my next update, cheers.

thanks all

dunno if you ever saw McDonald's "Eddy the Echo" commercials, but having your character do the 'slightly leaning back, pointing with both hands and winking' pose that Eddy does when he says his "How yah doin? How yah doin?" phrase could work. Kind of that cliche "I'm lookin good~" pose.

Hi all..finally i'll have some free time to get on with my animation..but I was looking into my character and think I dont really like it very much, would prefere something more "cartoony", but cos I'm not a modeller at all (built this character from different model parts) I wonder if anyone out there would be kind enough to lend me one of they characters, a stupid like character, someone that is hated even by his own reflection :)
as gotta be someone out there with a character just like that seating on a forgoten folder waiting to be animated..

Pleeeeeaaase

I know one thing maybe hard but..

When he walks away

Will the other guy confused stand up then will the evil guy come back with something and "bong" him down.

Hey, Gru...what version of QuickTime does this run on - All I get is a white screen on playback( I'm using QT 4)?

By the way, the render at the begining of this thread is very good. The the chap in the red coat has character!

Thanks guys

Downup- Thanks for the sugestion, but I guess i'll end up the animation just as it is...may had a last bit at the end, getting the guy to raise is head and look at the camera in total looking confused and clueless of what just happened to him.

Boone- The clip has been encoded with Sorenson Video 3, i guess you may have to get quick time 5 or 6, not sure tho.
