View Full Version : FXWars! THE OCEAN!: Jonas Ussing
jussing 02-10-2006, 07:39 AM Yay. :) Can't wait to get started.
I just landed a freelance gig though, that'll keep me 300% busy for a month, so chances are I won't finish. Still, I'll give it a shot!
Cheers all,
- Jonas

Thanks guys, you're too kind!
Yes, it'll be a pirate ship (or similar, from that age), with torn sails and all.
My first step is to model the ship (gathering reference right now).
-Because I know I'll never completely finish putting the "finishing touches" on the water, so if I start with the water, I'll never get to working on the ship. ;)
However, since the water is what the challenge is about, I'll have to do some darn quick speed modelling, and get the ship over with quick.
Will update soon.
Cheers all,
- Jonas

First update, the ship.... the reference is mainly The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean, the goal is to have a modelled ship by the end of the day.... rather optimistic, perhaps...

Maybe i will join the wars, just need to find myself some time for it.
Goodluck i'll be watching you (^_^)

This ship is looking awesome :applause: , the stairs and the cannons are looking great, and I love the barrels, just the size of that barrel next to the cannon seems a bit out of scale. Besides that, great work! :D

...working on the back now...
EDIT, forgot to answer this:
What about the freelance-project? Is it an interesting one?
It was, actually, but I had to decline because I'm too busy with a deadline at work. The project was an environment for a cinematic for E3, which would be really cool for my CV. Technically, I don't have time for this ocean clip either, and the ocean clip doesn't even pay, so you may ask why I didn't cancel the ocean challenge to do the freelance clip... Answer is, no-one is gonna sue me if I don't finish the ocean challenge. ;)
Cheers,
- Jonas
That looks awesome

...finalizing sails and ropes...
I still need some lanterns and a pattern on the back of the cabin.
And those large, tall triangular shapes on the sides will be replaced with patterns of rope.

Your ship is fantastic.

the pink plan will be with opacity map?

the pink plan will be with opacity map?
Hi, thanks!
No, I won't use opacity maps as they don't work well with Max's render elements (they will render as solid in zdepth and lighting passes  ). I plan on building all the ropes and knots.
But unfortunately, I doubt I will finish in time, as I have zero time to work on it for the next 14 days.

Hope to see an update soon. The dateline is fast approaching, so you have enought time to render the final scene.
