OK here's the deal. My company got me a renderbox. I called alias about getting a stand alone mentalray license and they told me that maya unlimited (which i have) comes with 8 MR licenses and i dont need to buy any. She then told me to email alias to see if it was possible to transfer the license to another box cause she didnt know. So I emailed them and it's taking forever to get a response....(it's a good thing we spent the money on the platinum membership! *sarcasm*)

So my question to you guy is:

Is all off this possible?? do i need to buy another license??

If it possible how do i set up a network to utilize both PC's when rendering. Or is there some sort of special software that comes with the CD's to do all this for me?

Another thing on my main computer I'm running dual amd 4800 X2 processors and mental ray is reading 8 satellite cpus, shouldnt it be 4?

Help!!!

Yeah, we have a similar set up here at work. The way it works is that you're not really transferring the license. You need to set up a license server. Look it up in your mental ray manual, it should tell you how to do this. Basically it's a windows machine, with the FlexLM license server software installed on it. It keeps track of your maya and mental ray information for you.

So, for our setup here at work. We have 4 computers, but only two licenses of Maya. This works for us because the server only lets 2 computers at a time to load up maya. The mental ray licenses are the same way, but since our render farm rarely reboots; they're constantly checked out.

Thanks buddy, I'll check into it. I was pretty sure you could do it through the flexlm utilities that come with maya. I'll give it a try a let you know how it goes.
