Hey,
This question has got on my nerves all day today, due to the fact that its easyer to create the wheel and tire with NURBS yet the Spokes with Polys...and you cant really get that welded feel...now i understnad it would be best to use Nurbs OR Polys yet Nurbs is alot easyer and alot cleaner yet i do now know how to texture nurbs... Textures normaly stretch and you spend hours tweaking..now with polys you get a good resalt and then you have to un Wrap the UVs and start painting textures which i dont mind yet they never turn out how i want, there is no good tutorials on making a wheel and tire they are just crap ones from 2002 that do not include texturing so im quite mind bogeled on how todo it! Would anyone care to share?

Im using Maya 7.0 & Photoshop CS 2

Here's a link to bicycle wheel tut: http://www.geocities.com/paulthepuzzles/aabikewheel.html

It's for Wings3d but it should be applicable to Maya as well. As for textureing the wheel, you can save time by unwraping the model while there is only one spoke. After you've done your unwrapping, you can then duplicate the spoke element and there you have it. If you want to avoid any obvious repeats in the texture, you can pull out a few select UV shells from the cloned spokes and give them their own texture space.
