last night I was trying to convert a 32 bit .tif from zbrush to .map, for some reasion imf_copy -p didn't recognize the .tif and wouldn't convert. I have a scene where I used tif files for color. Before it would render in mental ray, even though the files were .tif, now after using imf_copy mental ray isn't reading the .tif format.

Anyone know why my ".tif" from zbrush displacment tool wouldn't convert to ".map"

anyone know why mental ray decides to read a file format and then decides not to.

me so confused

Well I've been searching around the forums looking at .map stuff myself because I've not used it before and want to know about its nuances. Someone may wish to correct me on this because I've never actually used imf_copy etc myself, this is info from other threads but hopefully it will be sound enough.

Is the image greyscale? If so then imf_copy and .map won't really like it in that state. Take it into photoshop and change it to an RGB and then save it out uncompressed again. With any luck that should do the trick.

hey, I bet its working now???

I had the same similar issue, but after a reboot(very rare) and a re-render of my Zbrush displacement .tiff I could now convert again :)

I have heard of MR doing this... he aparently had to reinstall... aparently
