"fin d'ete" (end of summer) is a CG short film by Patrick Harboun, Ronan Le Fur and Joaquim Montserrat.
The story: In an abandoned city before a tropical storm, a woman decides to stay…
Through this film, our ambition was to portray a particular ambience and feeling more than a heavy storyline. We worked on it for 6 months within our studies at Supinfocom, a French CG animation school. You can view "fin d'ete" at www.findete.com (http://www.findete.com/) (you'll need the latest Flash player installed).
The film is best viewed in full screen with headphones, after having downloaded the Quicktime version ;-)
I hope you’ll enjoy it.

This looks interesting, but there seems to be a problem with the site; It's very empety, and I surely can't find anything there to download...

Nice. The website was really nice too.
The rendering were really great. Even though the resolution of both the website and the film was sort of small, the movie was nice. Well done. :)

There are a few spots though. The face of the women seemed rather strangely modeled, as well as parts of the walking. But it's nice altogether as I said earlier. =)

mmm just beautiful, I loved it. I'd like to see a HD version.

My only crit, the walk cycle of the woman seemed a little wooden in some places. But easily forgiven :) Five stars from me.

Thanks for your comments and critics.
Dawi, you'll need the latest flashplayer installed to view the site.
A high resolution version will soon be online. Meanwhile, you can download the quicktime and view it in fullscreen. (The download button is the small white icon... maybe a bit too small ;-)

Thanks a lot for your comments.

There seem to be problems for some people to view the site. Maybe it's due to the server hosting the site being instable. Please visit the site later if you have trouble viewing anything.

I was going to give this 4 stars because of the human animation and the model stand out too much from the all-round realism that the clip offers but... the overall quality, presentation and atmosphere is beyond belief, so... five stars from me :)

Would love to see this, can anyone post the download link for me?

I have the latest Flash player for LInux installed, but there is no Flash 8 for linux yet, only 7, so I guess I will not be able to make use of the site. When I go there it is mostly blank :-(

Thanks

Great work, nicely done. The particles and effects are amazing. And I love the way she breathes. I like your attention to details.

Visually this animation works very very well, the feel and ambients on the shots are very nice, not to mention the attention to detail with the backgrounds and environments! But one thing I would say is that the character doesn’t look quite right and seems to look a little out of place in some areas and this might be me but her body doesn’t look like it follows the female anatomy quite right – for example her neck look a little to thick, but again all in all id say this is a very nice animation! Well done!

Moody and pretty.
With nice effects too.
Good job. Only the character animation is somewhat behind the rest in quality.

Amazing work on the storm effects! I would really like to know how you guys did the storm coulds, and the lighting illuminating from within. Some shots looked like you went out and actually filmed real storm clouds.

Thanks again for all of your comments!

The shot with the storm clouds is actually a matte painting that Joaquim drew in Photoshop and animated in After Effects.
We haven't used any filmed footage ;-)

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

Floper, you know better than anyone else what it was like to work and live in Aulnoy-leZ-Valenciennes, don't you? ;-) Merci mec!

By the way, the film can now be seen in a much bigger resolution. At www.findete.com (http://www.findete.com/) , simply go in the VIDEO section and click on the small white icon.

loved the the whole thing from an aesthetical and technical standpoint,
it's just a pity that you made it so sad...

Awesome work. I like the little things that you did that was soooo natural. Bring realism in animation i'm up for that. Great Storytelling. The storm made me panic dude.

Very good movie. All of the things are well modeled and the light is very nice. The "actor" looks very real.
The story is also nice and sentimental:)
