Hi to everyone, I have this weird character composed by 4 spheres (one big one for the body, three little ones for the eyes and the mouth) and 3 toruses as the orbitals for the electrons (mouth and eyes), and I need to animate it. Nothing extremely fancy, just speaking and some "expressions" (as much as a 4 ball character can have expressions...).

How would you rig it? Strange one, ins't it?!

Well, it always depends, on what it is supposed to do (facial expression, talk...)

Did you do a hierarchy already? That should be your first step!

IŽd put a lattice or a similar deformer onto your eyes and your mouth. You can now model some poses (open/close eye, smile...) which you may then use as blend shapes. The pivot point of your spheres can be inside the character, which you may use to create even more blend shapes. Combine that with some driven keys and you have first setup to mstart animating.

IŽd not use bones or rigs on this one, keep it short and simple, practice blend shapes and driven keys with standard animation methods (pos/scale/rotate).

Okay, nuff said! :)

Bye

Chris
