Hey all,

I just finished a short piece of animation and I'd like to share with you guys. It's called "Psychokiller". I tried to portray a crazy goblin that thinks and behaves as a human, not cartoony.:D

I did all the animation and rendering, the model and textures were done by Chris Moffitt. Sound from Sin City.

Let me know what you guys think! :D

The Avi version is here: http://www.marcocapparelli.com/temp/psycho/psychokiller.avi (http://www.marcocapparelli.com/temp/psycho/psychokiller.avi)

This is a really nice piece, well acted, good emotion, lip sync is decent.
The one big thing that is driving me crazy about it is the constant motion, hes moving all over the place all the time. It's hard to really watch because of all that flowing motion. I think you need some more stops and pauses to really accentuate it.

i like it! for a realistic non-cartoonish style is right on the spot!

i don't think there's too much motion. you were aiming for a realistic style afterall.

cheers!

HEy guys, thanks for the comments!

As far as the excessive movements, Marco is right: it was my intention when animating since the character is 'mentally disturbed'. He is very restless and not sure about his inner personality, a real psychopath, unpredictable :D

HEy Kahlan,

I used Maya 6.5 to animate and rendered in 2 passes in Mental Ray (one for RGB and other for FG).

As far as how I did it, well, I tried to portray, as I said, an mentally disturbed person. It was kinda hard first because he would have to change emotions/feelings during the animation: first, worried/thoughtful then he gets scared of 'becoming what they've always said' and, by the end, realising that he was a psychokiller and being happy/nice with it. Kinda complicated, uh? :D

Lip Sync was kinda hard in some parts because the model cant really have all the mouth shapes right. Since his mouth is long, shapes like "O", "U", etc were almost impossible to get.

As far as the technical part of the LipSync, there were no mouth/blend shapes, everything was animated by hand with the bones on his face.

If you guys have more questions, just shoot it!
