I am trying to create a cutting torch animation. Using particles as the flame, when the torch is moved the particles need to move with it. The problem I have is that the particles go haywire every time the torch changes direction. I like the look of PArray with a wind warp as the flame, but is there any way to control the particles and keep them from wondering.

Would it be possible to see the problem in action? Just hearing "Wandering particles" is a little hard for me to think of a solution for.. so far I'm thinking maybe give them a map and some proper hiking-boots :)

Gaggle, I attached the crazy particles

Gaggle, this is how I would like it to look.

Hm.
Have you tried disabling the various spacewarps affecting them? Perhaps just one of them causes the weirdness. In particular I've had issues with Deflectors from time to time, especially when dealing with moving emitters.

Hm.. but idunno.. nothing jumps to mind when seeing that behaviour. Someone more experienced with particles might yet be able to solve it though

There is only one warp in the scene and kinda need it to force the particles down, but thanks for responding!:)

duno this is just a thoeri since i never used particles. why not just reduce life span of particles and set more particle emiters with diffrent speeds and densetied of particles.

Dark-Angel,
Your idea did not work, if I change the life span the particles still do the same thing just not as much and adding more emitters just seems to make it worse. Thanks for you idea!

By default, Motion Inheritance should be set to 1.0 which will cause the particle emission to receive the motion of the emitter 100%. So my guess is that they are inheriting too much motion or are not moving fast enough. For this type of effect, depending on the scale of the scene, you've probably got to have the particle speed at 30 and life at 5 or 10.

Also play with turning off and on sub-frame sampling...sometimes does the trick.
