Just had to repost this, when they moved the server it got bumped. Looking for critiques and suggestions, and some encouragment wouldn't be bad(thanks swelty).

Anyway this is my first RT LP character. He's an elite officer in a facist army about 100 years in the future.

My final in game average poly count should ring in around 2k - 2.5k. Although right now I'm not really keeping track, just trying to ask much as possible with as little as I can, then I'll tweak the final. Besides this way I can easily go either way, higher for pre-rende and lower for in game stuff.
I'm a little nervous about the texturing part, its alway been my Achilles, I get so worked up about I avoid it at all costs, but I'll get by with a little help from my friends.

Thanks for your time.

Well here are some new shots. Getting into the armor now. Trying to figure out what to do with the back armor, I never really designed, thinking that it would be like the front, but now I think it woudl be cool to do something out there. Looking for thoughts on this.
Added the head to the body this time, like the proportions, but then my eye is always slanted. You're input is welcome.

I saw a reply on ether's orc thread that mentioned the GL renders, and that they were faulty cause the model could never look like that in game. Well my reasoning for using the Brazil GL is that while the in game shots would look different, when modeling I find it helpful to look at a less harsh more clay like render. Even the best LP models I've seen can look crude untill they are textured. Granted its not the way that it would look in the game, but it gives you an idea what it would like textured with shading, more so that just a scanline. Thats just my two cents.

Thank, look forward to hereing from you all.

Thank you so much overlord, I was begining think no one was reading this thread.
Just finished the big shoulder guard, trying to figure out how I'm going to texture this beast.
Any ideas for the back armor?

Hey. Just noticed this post. And realized I did some drawings of samurais for a now defunct card game. Looks like you got most of the samurai look down. Usually though I believe the armor is made up of shingles...or something...I wish I had the images i used for reference! Seeing as this is a Neo-Samurai, I'm sure you the armor is made of Titani-o-carbon-spider-web. :)
As for the back. I'd say perhaps a hi hard shelled collar. I'm a sucker for collars, the bigger the better.

After readin my post I apologize for any stupid remarks its 4:36am here...but really the model is coming along nicely.

Woo hoo found the photos I used...well at least 2 of them. Should work in terms of color themes and possible armor ideas.
You see the shingles I'm refering to?
Anyways just some references if you need em.

More posts, great. Wow modeling man, thanks you so much for your help. Those pics are great. Where did you get em, is there a book out there??

As for the shingles I've beeing thingking of doing that on the back. When you say hard colar, do you mean something that comes up high in the back, its sounds interesting, but it might get in the way of the helmet.

Looking at some other refs, I'm wondering if I should ad some leg guards and what not. Granted I have the front and side guards, but who know. After all he's not a Tokagowa samuri.

Keep the post coming I'll make more stuff.

A great series if your looking for design is Lone Wolf and Cub. Theres a lot of fresh characters in there. As for the model, he's looking pretty nice. I'd give him a chin strap for the helmet tho...chinstraps are badass :)

Peace,

Yeah generally the proportions look real good, the only thing that stands out to me is the neck/back/shoulder muscle bit. Looks like you'd snap his neck like a twig :D
(and longer wrists but I assume u haven't finished these)

Oh and the pointy helmet looks a bit extreme, reminds me of those velodrome cyclist ppls.

Anyways, coming along nicely.. have fun rigging and animating that leg armour though :D
