Greetings everyone.

This is one of numerous characters I'm working on for my thesis short animation. His name is Robelvis. He's a Robot Elvis Presley powered by nuclear bananas.

The modeling is basically done, although I still need to add the sideburns. I think I'm going to stick them on the monitor like I did with the hair, only I'm not sure if they should go on the front or the back.

Grainy Elvis-video is going to play on the screen for his "face."

Next up: Shading and texturing.

I'm working on this in tandem with a number of other characters so the updates may be a little slow, but ALL COMMENTS AND CRITS WELCOME. Thanks guys.

Haha...of the scientist, the bunny and this, I like this the most. It's the most unique and funny. Would he have feet? I'm having a hard time imagining how he would move with those metal cones he has for legs. They emulate the jumpsuit bellbottoms really well, but would the deform at all for animation?

Thanks for your comment! (By the way, the character part of your porfolio on your site is awesome!)

No feet, he's going to just clomp around on those flared leg parts. He's going to have a fairly "robotic" movement, but he will be able to walk pretty naturally by "rolling" on the flat bottoms...not sure exactly how to explain. THe only deformation will be secondary animation on the hair, otherwise a very "rigid" binding. Oh yeah and they do bend at the knee, where those ball joints are.

P.S. he can shoot lasers from his pelvis. Booyah.

That's a riot! I'd love to see it animated.

If Elvis was a robot, that would be him! Great representation and character. Gotta love that hairstyle. :)

i noticed this character is copywritten (though i don't know why)- you might want to be careful, the elvis footage you use for his face may be copywritten also. Good start- let's see more.

Satch, Authentic, sitnik, mijaba, Thank you for your words!

I will probably manipulate the elvis video significantly for it to be 'original', or draw over it. I prefer to post copyright on anything unfinished i put out in public, i consider it a good practice.

Currently playing with the shading- I want his chassis to be "ipod white"- getting a good, glossy white surface to render is harder than I thought it would be! post soon.

haha! thats great!

some suggestions:

give him a shiny short cape
put a picture of elvis on the screen, and pose the robot like the elvis in the screen

thanks!

i don't think i can handle simulating a cape in my short film, but i think i will put some sort of elvis photo on his screen. maybe just the face from that stamp.

sorry, i just look at the pretty pictures... somehow i missed the shortfilm part...

what if its like a sheet of glittery metal that comes down in a cape-like fashion, then it fits, and no need to animate that part of it.

I like his texture. Just the screen hurt me. No need to have elvis in it but something more realist as you have reflection and realistic element on other part of your character.

Haha! Great job - I love it! I would love to see the cape and definitely some sort of face. Not sure what this is meant for but if for portfolio, perhaps it's ok to use Elvis's face? You know, as long as you're not making money off it in a direct way?
