Hi, I've just finished writing a Cook-Torrance metal shader for 3D Studio MAX R3.x and R4.x, which gives you much more control than the default MAX metal shader, with more settings. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the MAX Raytrace material (I'm working on that).

To install just, put the .dlb into the MAX plugins directory.

This shader has four main settings:
Specular Level
Roughness
Specularity
Index of Refraction

I hope some of you get some use from this plugin. Do feel free to mail me if you find it useful, or have any suggestions, etc...

If you're interested in any other shaders I've written you can get the link to my Interblinn shader, by searching for it on www.maxplugins.de.

Enjoy,

Michael Bailey

I was just doing some tests and this is a pretty nice plugin. Thanks for the nice addition to my shader library. Side by side with the standard metal material I really like how this one looks. Bravo! :D

Thanks a lot. This shader does have more control over the MAX default metal shader and can produde better effects. I hope you get some use out of it.

You may be interested in checking out my InterBlinn shader, which allows for an interesting effect, by being able to vary between normal Blinn and Faceted, and also make each face 'bump' in or out. You can get it here: http://www.vi2.com/maxForumFiles/11_18_2001/InterBlinnR4.zip (for MAX R4.x) and http://www.vi2.com/maxForumFiles/11_18_2001/InterBlinnR3.zip (for MAX R3.x)
