View Full Version : Debris in a corner using particles?
french 12-08-2002, 09:56 PM Hi, I've been tring to make some debris in a corner of a room, but have hit a brick wall ( ha, sorry for the poor pun ).
I would like to create the debris ( leaves mostly, with some dust and litter thrown in ) using particles, to allow for nice random distribution, and to get it to pile up in a natural fashion in the corner of the room.
I have been experimenting with spray and deflectors, but can't get it to work at all.
I have little experience with particles, but a couple of years with MAX generally. Consider my knowledge level to be intermediate, so don't be afraid that complicated solutions will be beyond me.
TIA,
Mark

Could you place a picture so we can get a better idea? Is the debris going to be animated? I think your on the right track but am curious to see the picture.

I'm at work at the moment, so I will post an image tonight.
The debris won't be animated for the image, as I only want to render a still, but it needs to be animated to enable the particles to spread around the sceneand collect in the corners.
Mark.

Perhap a Scatter compound object on selected faces in your corner with distribution set to random would work better?
Exactly what I was thinking using instanced geometry. I would use low poly objects with good mapping. Scatter though has a few bugs in it though that I find very annoying, like crashing Max.
Is there anyone who knows of a script that does the job better than the original scatter either for max 4.26 or 5?

Thanks for the replies chaps. Here's a quick render of the room. I still have quite a bit of modelling to do.
It is, in fact, based on a book cover which can be found here: http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/0099307103.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
GIven the way that the debris is piled up, I don't think that Scatter will do the job, and still look to particles to be my salvation.
By all means, if you think scatter can do what I want, then please tell me how.
Here's hoping,
Mark
I think you needa sit down and just instance and hand move em.
It's not that big of a pile.
Hey, no one said CG was all quick and easy.

Don't know if you want to go this route.Digimation makes a plugin called Spraymaster that looks like it could do the trick.

Hey Daddioz, that looks exactly what I'm after. I'll give it a try and show the results.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
