I am a fairly new student to Shake, however after using Side Effect's Houdini, I find the transition fairly easy. Procedural node-based modeling is amazingly similar to node-based compositing.
After needing to have shake in linux default to a different path for file in nodes, I found out about the shake scripting.
The one thing I despratly want in every package since I've learned how to operate houdini is the tab menu in houdini (Description of this tab menu will be at the end of this post)
I was curious to know how powerful the shake scripting is, and if it would be possible to recreate this menu that I so adore. (I'm not looking for people to post code, but if you do, I won't mind, I'm more or less looking to hear if its able to be done).
For those who have never used houini:
The houdini tab menu works as such:
When you push tab, you get a menu at your curser that has all the node groups, if you click on one it opens up all the nodes in that group, but the power comes in the search. If you push tab to open the menu, then instead of clicking on a group, you start typing, it will show all nodes that match the letters you type, so if you push <tab> c, then all the nodes that start with c will show up in the menu, if you push enter, it will create the closest match.
Very cool, and very fast... and something that I would be willing to learn shake scripting for if its possible to do, I just want to know if it would be possible before I start.
Thanks.
