I do not want to double post here, so I will just share a link to a post I made at 3DBuzz.com (http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=124394) on the status of things at Disney.

I think a great idea would be to do shorts again before all live action films.
Like the Goofy How-To shorts and Silly Symphonies, etc. It would give a chance for all the newer animators and such, a project to work on while things go into transistion. Plus it would not mean laying people off from the unnamed studios that will get shut down. Give people a place to learn and grow as artists and then move on to features within the Disney studios.

I think the last short Disney had was on Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. And that was a Roger Rabbit short.
Everyone loves the Pixar shorts just as much as the features.

So next meeting, throw it out there and see if ya get any bites. :applause:

New disney shorts would be great! My favorite was the one where donald and the nephews have a snowball fight. Classic! We need more of those.

WRONG! It was "Mickey Mouse in Runaway Brain"!

Now on to a more personal note...Circle7 Animation Studios. In case some of you were not aware, this is the name of our studio where we were in the process of making Toy Story 3. Yes, "were". In the meeting last Wednesday, it was announced that "all production on Toy Story 3 will stop immediatly". That announcement stung as some of you know I was working on TS3.
Thanks for the news. We all appreciate your positive attitude. I hope you get put on another movie soon!

The actors must be pretty bummed about it too ~ especially if they don't earn most of their money until a movie comes out.

I'm sorry to hear about the Circle 7 people but I think it was the right move for Pixar to maintain control over any sequels. I think that was one of the main reasons for Pixar joining Disney was to maintain control of their past works and any future sequels.

Also if Pixar starts creating new Disney content then I think their magic will make those properties stronger as well.

Cheers,
JS

Hey Mike. Sorry I missed you at Jesse's bday gathering last Friday. They told me you were on hold over there. This is a nice description of the situation. All I have to say is, enjoy your leisure time while you can! Catch up on all those DVDs you've never watched. I'm sure you'll be busy again quite soon. Hang in there!

One of the other things to come out of last Wednesday's meeting was that Disney will start to produce shorts, just like Pixar. It is something that John Lasseter believes in, and something that Disney will start to do again, as soon as everything starts to calm down.

WRONG! It was "Mickey Mouse in Runaway Brain"!

Runaway Brain was made long after Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I vaguely remember a Roger Rabit short (the hospital one), but maybe I'm being influenced by Magan3d.

edit: Nevermind i misinterpreted your post. I thought you meant Runaway Brain played before Honey I Shrunk the Kids, but now I realize you meant it was the last Disney short released theatrically. It's a shame all their subsequent shorts have only been shown in festivals.

I don't know anything about how this affected the actors; maybe somebody closer to the production can tell their side of the story.

Hey Jeremy, loved your book.

I'm not sure what actors they were referring to as we were just finishing up pre-production. There was no voice talent brought in to do any recording sessions, yet.

Well said. A great perspective. Best of luck to you and the rest of c7.

I would consider Fantasia 2000 to be a collection of shorts. I think it shows that Disney has (or at least had) the ability to tell powerful stories in a short amount of time, without even using dialogue.
