in v8 you could just make the box editable and select those edges then edge bevel them a couple of itmes, or you could use a normal chamfered box nd scale it vertically so that the top and bottom aren't as rounded. or you could create a rectangular spline, make it editable, chamfer it using the chamfer tool till it's rounded enough for you, and extrude it up into the shape of the box, then just add rounded caps to make nice bevels on teh top and bottom.

mdme_sadie : newbie question....not necessarily related to the question but is there any quick way to convert a spline object into a poly object? eg you quickly knocked up a spline, went to points more and realised Ooops mistake i shoulda used a poly object as i now want to create polys....how can i get the poly object from the spline without having to redraw the spline? just can't seem to find it anywhere...thanks.

you can select all the points, make a new poly object from teh objects menu (i learned recently this si different to teh poly object in the toolbar) and in the structure manager paste the points from teh spline into the poly object.

alternatively you can put your spline into a loft object and it will create a heap of polys linking up your points.

you can also save the points out as a text file or something and load them into a poly object (or so i hear) anyhow the copy/paste from teh structure manger seems teh simplest route to me.

just had a play with this....made spline box, convert to editable, point mode, then from the structure menu tab (right side), select all -> then to file export ascii data (structure menu)....give it a name....
then add a poly object, go back to structure menu and choose file import ascii data ->retrieve your file....and you got your points. very nice. this way you also don't end up with say your spline in the hierarchy or whatever. thanks bud appreciated.
