View Full Version : ZBrush 2.5 Contest Judged by Meats Meier (Sponsored by Pixologic)
ravioli_rancher 01-28-2006, 08:02 PM This contest has been going on since October 31st, 2005, but only has Two entries, thusfar.

As been mentioned on the ZBrush forums, it seems a little wonky to offer ZBrush as a prize to ZBrush users, though perhaps demo users could benefit from this contest, or others could just sell the prize on eBay (as I assume its the boxed version) .
At least 18 more entries are required by Febuary 14, 2006, or else it will be cancelled, and nobody gets nuthin'. Impetuous monkeys!
Everything seems legit as its sponsered by Pixologic and judged by ZBrush Guru Meats Meier. If anyone has information to the contrary, please share.
Just trying to hype up some interest, before all is lost.
Might be good practice for the upcoming CGTalk challenge. :arteest:

what is actually kind of interesting is that although meats meier may be a 'zbrush advocate', the image they use with his name was done in maya, not zbrush.
opinion:
come to think of it, his most memorable images are ones that he did before he started using zbrush exclusively. between the wire creatures, mother nature, and the creation sculpture, the newer stuff is lacking in dynamicism. zbrush images look and feel like zbrush images, much in the same way that poser and bryce have the same obviousness. zbrush is great... but it really needs to be used as a part of a process, not a replacement for one.
anyways, im surprised there arent very many entrants involved in this.

You also agree by submitting your artwork/creations/entry for this Contest in waiving the right to make any claims against LabOrganika Forum, it's Admin, Moderators, Judges, Sponsors and or members, related to any copyright issues.
I bet this line has something to do with the limited response.

Opus13,
I've seen some posts in the past (either here, or at ZBrush Central) where Meats is very self-depracting of his own work. I've also seen posts of his Traditional artwork and its amazing. He's unquestionably a talented artist, taking huge chances and experimenting with new technologies, finding unique styles along the way. Breaking out of that 'Done in ZBrush" look is difficult, but he made as much progress as anyone. Anyhoo, I was merely trying to hype up the contest, not scandalize somebody famous  My fault for name dropping a complete stranger.
Rabid_Pitbull,
I failed to examine the fine print. Thanks for pointing that out. Thank goodness CGTalk does not impose the same restrictions. Curious that Pixologic would offer endorsement, knowing this. Hype makes us drunk and wobbly, I suppose. :hmm:
Then again, I suppose they need to make such concessions, in order to avoid lawsuits. I believe the owner of the site is a professional artist, so is well aware of copyrite issues, and isn't looking cause a fuss, just promote his site, and ZBrush.
Professional illustrators, in any medium, have to agree to similiar terms no matter who they work for, no? I remember reading about John Pound, the most prolific Garbage Pail Kids illustrator, no longer owning any of his paintings, as he was working for Topps, and they claimed everything. Same for the artists behind the Wacky Packages (Topps is now auctioning off some of these works on eBay for thousands of dollars).
Nothing for free. Not even winning a contest. :banghead:
Let's riot!  :wavey: :wip:

Jeff -
I'm not really sure what you are talking about, but FYI - the Maya 7 signature image was done using 100% Maya and the Zbrush box was done using 100% Zbrush.
-edit Ok, I see what you are talking about, they used one of my Maya images on the Zbrush contest page. Got it. :)
