View Full Version : Can someone finish my short script?

Hello,
I'm going to do a 3d short to practice my general skills of everything. I have pretty much only an idea of what I want to do and a basic idea. I was wondering if any talented script writer out there would be willing to take that basic idea and develop it further. Of course if I finish the short and its good I would plan to expose it and obviously credit the script writer for his or her story. This is totally non-profit so I there would be no $$ for any party involved in the deal. I'm not really sure if people are up for this kinds of things so I'm just "shooting at the sky to see if I kill a bird" like they say in my country.

My first idea would revolve around a little kid maybe about 5 - 8 years old depending on what suits the story best. He would by accident or intentionally give live to one of his toy characters. The thing is that for some reason I leave to the writer, this "monster-toy" would appear as an old version of itself that only drinks beer eats a lot, watches TV and pays no attention to the kid. So eventually the kid would either find a way to get him back to his inanimate toy form or get revenge breathing life to another one of his toys. Actually the end should be a nice twist so it’s completely open for suggestions.

I have tried to develop it a few times taking it different directions but I didn’t quite "get there". One version would be taking it to the super hero scene, making the kids toy a superhero action figure and that would make the kid wear maybe one of those kid superhero customs... another direction was making him an extremely cute monster so that when he turns old or should I say grown up it would be a funny and cool visual twist. I would like that the child discovers this character and would still wanna play with him even if his old or so to later discover that he pays no attention to his monkey business.

My motives are that I want to experiment with a child human character, I also want to either check out a really fat character, more than just huge, made of fat parts hanging everywhere… lots of jiggle stuff, fat wrinkles and such. The location setting should try to keep it to as few locations as possible, maybe just the kids room and the house living room with the TV and a view of the kitchen door from where you could easily see the toy character taking his food and beer… up to the writer actually. Also 2 or 3 characters top. If needed I would only include the parents briefly and maybe only their arms and legs (muppets style). Oh yeah, one more thing, the camera will pretty much always be placed on the kids height… little info if you are able to use it for the script that’s cool.

The short would have to be around a minute to up to three tops. I would like to make something short and try to make it really good quality rather than something long that I might not be able to finish. I would have the art done by a friend of mine or I would step up to the plate, but it will most definitely be stylized. I’m not sure yet but it would range between two options… either very cartoony with well lit shaders and not much texture, very simple surfaces and such or the other option would be with nice textures and details very zbrushy looking, but I’m waiting to see if the story decides this for it self.

Ok then… sorry for the long post I’m waiting for your replies.

Thanx,

Andrew “thesuit”

Oh yeah... one more thing, any comment is more than welcome. If not a full proposition I think it would be nice to hear small or separate comments from everyone that reads this. Maybe grain by grain it adds up to the future development of this script. A hundred heads think better than one of course I don't know if I can credit them all :D... although finally I think only one writer should rewrite and close the whole thing for continuity and consistency sake.

I can do this. I love writing small stuff like this.
Can give you a full script by tomorrow, that fits into your parameters.
I would want credit for the writing in return, and a copy of the work so I have it on file.

i'll make sure to read it and give feedback when you get it written by whoever joins you.

good luck.

Hello hellgatemedia,
I'd love to read your proposition. I do have to warn you that I will take my time with the production of the short, in terms of visual proposition and general pre production and later on with the actual production, cause I do this in my spare time. If I like what you propose, I'll credit you for writting the script. I would probably mention that the main idea was mine but I'm mainly focused on the 3d credits and of course the practice.

I did some work over at Image comics like this, so what you offer is fine.
I got a credit for my contribution, I didn't ask for more than I deserved,
but of course, this would all hinge upon you liking or disliking my script.
I will give you a story breakdown right now, if you like it, I can give you an entire
script. I'd have done this yesterday, but I've been having problems with the CG Talk forums.

A boy is in room, I'd say the boy should be about 6 or 7, he's on the floor, there's an open toy chest at the edge of his bed, and there a few toys on the floor. In one hand, he's got one of those Stretch Armstrong type toy and like a typical boy, he's looking for someone for Stretch to fight.
He sees an amulet laying on the floor. He knows he didn't see it before, but it's shiny, it catches his attention, and he decides to grab it. Who knows how it got there, I know as a kid I used to pick up things all the time, and how exactly it managed to get into his toy box can be a plausable mystery. So, back to the Stretch Armstrong and the Amulet. He starts bashing the amulet with the stretch armstrong toy, and there's a big bright light. THe next thing you know, the toy is alive.
And it's kind of like Billy Bob Thorton in Bad Santa meets Mr Incredible from the Incredibles. This big stretchy muscular superhero in a superhero suit, but who isn't very super hero like. He wants to drink beer, smoke,
say bad things, and do bad things. Because he's a stretchy toy, he can morph into different people and do interpretations, he can also become something big and jiggly like you are looking for. So in this short film, the boy is trying to keep up with the toy, trying to stop him from doing bad things in the house, and he is trying to deanimate the bad toy.
When the toy is brought to life, the amulet is around the stretch armstrong toy's neck, so the boy has to pull off the amulet to stop him.

Hello hellgatemedia,
Thank you very much for your breakdown. I think you got the idea because the flow of your brakedown pretty much captures the essence of this type of good guy chases bad guy stories. However two key elements are just not convincing me enough.
One is the medallion that is just bluntly placed on the story, it really has no reason to be in a kid’s toy chest and it doesn’t help to explain why the toy would become an older version of itself. The second element is the Armstrong toy, I think the idea of an Armstrong type of toy made into a superhero would look cool but when he grows up, changing shapes and all would really represent a rigging problem and lots of technical difficulties.
Could you find work arounds for these two things?
