First and foremost, the plural of "vertex" is "vertices."
not "vertexs"

As for your question, it sounds like you have the snap turned on and locked to the x axis.

Nothing makes a noob feel more welcome than an armchair English major. I'm sure what his thread title meant to say was "Newbie needs a little help modeling and with my grammar".

Yes, exactly what everyone needs, to be corrected. Why do people care so much about that? Every forum has these dictionary thumpers. It is clear what was meant, that is not helpful in the least to be like "Well actually this is how to say it....." Who cares?

Back on topic, yes it sounds like perhaps some type of snap setting could be engaged. Can you move other vertices properly on other objects?

ok i will say a big sorry for the grammar
i can not move the vertices apart from left and right in the top view, but when im in the other views the vertices move left right up and down all fine

when you select the verts two arrows appear in the ortho views - click the square between them to move in the xy plane, click the x arrow to move in only x etx for y z

Could be also the use of one axis on your tranfser gizmo( the thing with x and y and z and the arrows). Don't drag it on an axis, click and drag the yellow box between the x and y axis arrow.

Who cares?
I care. Just because using the right terms makes communication in written form a lot easier.
And it's never wrong to learn or teach the use of them.

i have the feeling you have an axis-constained on like "x" or "y"...just click on "xy" and your back in the game....you find those constraints if you right-click on an empty space in the menubar and enable the constraines-bar

Sometimes you will notice that the size of the gizmo itself can get in your way and it can be easy to accidently grab just one axis.
That is, you are trying to grab both directions, but wind up only grabbing one axis.
Try to zoom in a bit on it so that the size of the gizmo may not be in your way.

What can be worse is you might notice that if you have set an axis constraint on the tool bar, it will be over-ridden if you grab another's handle on the gizmo. That is something on my wish list for Max - if you've set the constraint by the toolbar, let it stay that way while making your operation so I don't have to zoom in to some absurd amount to keep the gizmo out of my way as I try and grab a vertex.

As for the grammer issue...if that is all my post contained, then yes, that would make me a jerk. However, I also gave him a proper answer to his problem.
Was your post relevant to cav's question? or was it just a critisism?

Language is very important, especially in a specialized field such as this.

luckymutt I have no real issue with your correction since it was also coupled with advice in regards to the topic. The next post however was only for correction and served no purpose to cav's question.
