Yeah Roberto! You did manage it again! :scream: Now just hope that all CGTalk-members will go watching and voting, and that the servers don't let us down! ;)

How long will it be plugged? (of when will the voting close?) And can you see how often there is voted yet (not the votes per team, but just 'the number of people that voted' ;) )?

The voting/FXWars is unplugged from the frontpage?!? Is this really 'the end' of the publicity about it (after just 1 day?), or is it 'temporary' taken off the frontpage?

Will I need to rehost my files unless the unplug, Roberto? To me all my files (all File-lodge stuff) work well (tried it on different computers and different locations), but maybe it can be different at the other side of the globe?

JB

filelodge has been very sporadic, one minute it's completely off the next it's working fine.

RobertoOrtiz
02-01-2006, 09:30 PM
Well the thread is off the front page.

We had a good run.
and for those concerned about thisl keep in mind that the voting thread had 3,034 hits.

And here are the numbers for the number of downloads for the compilation reel.

(16 Megs) 582 downloads
(6 Megs) 99 downloads
(3 Megs) 95 downloads

800 people downloaded my compilation.

BTW did you guys like the compilation?
I have not yet gotten any feedback on it...
:(

PS And for those with file hosting problems, use Savefile.com. They work like a charm for me

Congrats to all that finished -- lots of fun stuff this round! Sorry I didn't have time to participate myself -- although I think I'm in on the next one. Good excuse to play with my new Nikon that can shoot RAW format (FINALLY!)... now to go get a Panosaur mount...

An odd thing I noticed when voting was that the voting thread told me that I'd already voted after I hit submit. Do you guys think it went through, or maybe was it still stuck on the same cookie from the Dracula challenge?

Roberto: I did like the showreel this time out, although I could have done without the muzak :D -- but that's more a taste issue than an effectiveness one.

I had a really hard time downloading the full, individual versions this time out. The showreel was the only place I could see everything in order to vote, and it had consistency in placement of names, etc going for it when I was scrubbing back & forth casting my votes.

Not sure about some of the categories like best editing when you only have access to the showreel and several of the entries are heavily condensed. Just something to think about. Definitely heading in the right direction. The easier it is to participate (including vote!), the faster the community will grow.

Cheers,

Roberto: that numbers are soooo impressive! It's really satisfying to know that at least 2,500 people have seen 'a glimpse' of what we have been working on!

The compilation was really way cool! :scream: I like the different images before an entry was showed, and the nice intro-animation! :) You did a really great job on it, and out of the numbers it seems that lots of people have enjoyed it! :)

Wouldn't it be good to think about putting the full entries in a similar compilation. Just one file in which all 5 entries are full-length showcased. It works really a lot better when people just get one file, with every time the membernames clearly in the frame, and so... We could host that one file on serveral servers, and have some different resolution-versions of it...?

Is the voting now closed? Just like Trey I don't get to really vote ('you allready voted'). Is that because I visited the voting-page too often yet?

Trey; great to hear that you'll be (trying) to enter the upcoming FXWars! It will be a honor (and a challenge on its own) to us/me to 'try to challenge you'! ;) Thanks for your nice and helpful feedback on the 'generous' entries...! We really need to find a way to host the files better, so that really everybody has the same chances.

I also agree you (Trey) about the different voting aspects. Maybe we/Roberto should look which ones are clear enough, and which ones could better be left out? For instance lighting/shading, modeling, details, realism, cinematography and such things good be interesting (too)?

I agree with Joseph about his points. The compilation is great, and I also doubt if really so much people have downloaded the movies! ;)

When will the results be showcased (not that I did it for that, but its always exiting ;) )?

Thanks again Roberto, for making this all possible!

Roberto's right, Joseph....

I've done challenges & projects both ways -- just shots vs. doing the full-blown story, music, titles... wrapping it up in a nice little bow.

I personally get a bigger kick out of completing a narrative (or taking a portion of one) than I do in just delivering a perfect shot or two out of context. That's just who I am :)

And yes, it makes things far more difficult, but far more rewarding creatively!

Nothing special...i used animated gradient ramp map(with higher fractal noise) on low poly model of alien to born the particles on his skin..:)

Link to animated gradient map to born particles :: http://www.filelodge.com/files/hdd6/134372/gradient_ramp.mov

and yeah for alien material..it's done with "Blend" material. In blend material, in one slot i had alien skin material and as in other slot i had that "black burned wood" like material..and i used that animated "gradient ramp" map(modified from above one) as mask to fade from "skin" material to " black" material...

Excuse my bad english..
