Hello!

I have a scale axis problem. Is there a dedicated scale axis in Maya?

My situation is this. I have an object, I do some transformations on it and then freeze transform it. As you can see in the first picture, the scale axis is now parallel to the world.

My question is how can I change the scale axis the way it’s in the second picture in an elegant way?

I have already tried the local rotation axis but it has no effect on the scale axis! Thanks in advance.

a straight answer would be no - there are some workarounds as described in previous threads - search the archives for more information

Hi, try this :)
create a one span linear curve, modify->center pivot so the pivot for the curve is centered, select the two curve`s CV , then select two vertices from your object ( the vertices have to be on the same edge ) use Modify->Snap Align Objects->2 points to 2 points

now your curve is snapped between the two vertices, then parent your object to the curve, freeze the transformation, and unparent your object, now you have your local axis again well oriented.

Olivier.

Thanks a lot Olivier! That’s a great solution. I tried many. The first time, I did the freeze transformation on the parent but it didn’t work. Then I tried the child. Kind of interesting. I didn’t know that when you freeze transform on a child, the local axis is aligned to the parent.

They should definitely add this to Maya. It’s such a simple and yet essential thing that amazes me how it’s not on this wonderful high-end software!
