POSITION: RENDER I / O COORDINATOR

DEPARTMENT: Render

SHIFT: 12am - 9am, possible weekends, part time available

Position Summary:
The Render I/O Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring renders, providing queue support to users, and performing tape backups and restores. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to code from time to time.

Responsibilities:
- Manage studio resources, including disk space and CPU utilization.
- Coordinate backups and restores.
- Monitor studio queue system - maximize frame distribution and efficiency.
- Expedite/prioritize tasks in the queue for immediate filming or viewing.
- Troubleshoot and correct failing tasks.
- Work with artists and producers to prioritize shots and resolve problems.
- Write tools and documentation to facilitate department responsibilities.

Required Skills:
- Unix experience (proficiency with basic tools, such as Unix shells, tar, ftp, rsh, ps, etc.).
- Scripting and programming experience (Perl, C/C++, sh/csh).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- CS degree or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills:
- Database experience (Informix or mysql preferred).
- Experience in a large installation Unix environment.
- Experience with revision control systems (RCS, CVS).
- Interest in computer animation and visualeffects.
