250 Tutorials on just about every aspect of Softimage XSI.
You can find them here: http://www.edharriss.com/tutorial.html
If you want to see them all at once, click the link at the bottom of the page. (The one that says: "All SOFTIMAGE|XSI... Tutorials") But dialup connections beware... it's a monster of a page.

Enjoy!

I'm currently a long time Maya user but XSI has caught my eye as of late. I've never run into something i cant accomplish in Maya, but I've been thinking about trying to add it to my tool set, and this might be my chance!

Anyone that uses both packages here can tell me what each one excels over the other at?

A question like yours can quickly turn into an App War. (Which we don't really want here.) I'm sure that your intentions were not to start arguments. I don't have any problems with people submitting answers to your question. Just as long as we keep everything civil. :)

Here are a few links that might give you some insight into your request.

Holy #@%$! Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed! I'm a lightwave guy, but my school recently got an XSI license, so I'm sort of testing the waters, this is just great, thanks again,

I just started using xsi a couple of weeks ago and i can tell you the polygon/subdee modeling toolset is a lot better in softimage(nurbs are better in maya). I believe maya 4.5 can also convert sub-dees to nurbs now which is one big + for maya.
Hair and cloth simulation are a lot easier to achieve in xsi as well, and an exceptional renderer is also a plus
Finally xsi is faster than maya when it comes to realtime feedback while using various tools and features.

edit. Lightwave users will have a ball with the new modeling workflow in xsi:buttrock: :buttrock:

but I've been thinking about trying to add it to my tool set

One can never have enough tricks in one's bag.

I am an XSI user that also has been a long time MAX user. Once my current project wraps up (done in XSI) I plan on getting up to speed with Maya.

I firmly believe that one can never have learned enough. Just knowing more then one app can only help you.

But I am sure you already know that. I am just giving you an extra push ;)

Good Luck
