View Full Version : Show Girl (Nudity)
Voron 01-25-2006, 07:06 PM I am an Architecture Student. This is my first 3d charactor peice (done in the time I stole from my classes). I created it in Cinema 4D and it is my intent to bring it to a level of high realism and to animate it to showcase the spaces that I create.
"Back here we have the living room with a spectacular view of the ocean..." You get the idea
Problem is....I'M STUCK!!!
This is not my field of expertees :scream: :banghead:

i've found that when the mesh is that dense, it gets very difficult to smooth things out. Stuff will get "lumpy" when you work on something, like the butt. It's best to "block" details in with large polygons and double the poly's in the areas where more detail is needed (face, hands, feet, crotch) and then triple the polys with more than 4 vertices. That being said, it's a good start, and I would work on smoothing the poly's alot for continuity (note 1: the "trough" below the belly button).
(note 2: the breasts would work better if they were composed of circles radiating out from the nipples).

Thanks for the comment... I agree that the mesh is too dense.
You mentioned the lumpiness that could occur on the butt... I totally have that here (If you look closely). However if I try to simplify the mesh I end up with holes for some weird reason.
Anyone have any idea why?

start in a tight area (like the butt crack) and unify sets of polygons (maybe 4 at a time) and delete the unnecessary vertices. Other than that (manual poly reduction) you'll probably have to scrap the body and start over-- which NOBODY likes doing. The head may be salvageable as-is, which of course is probably the single most important feature on a person that makes them LOOK like a person.
To sum up: Try merging polygons into larger ones FIRST, but you should see very soon whether or not it is an excercise in futility (and I've had ALOT of excercise in that area- I even took steroids for it- I'm freekin HERCULES). Good luck my friend.
Low poly counts are ESSENTIAL!

you obviously know your anatomy, but i agree with mijaba. in fact, i think you may be better off scrapping and starting over. the reason i say this is that it will save you a fortune in time in the long run. what you want is as few editing points as possible to achieve the body you are searching for and building a new low res body and getting everything in place before you smooth will only take you a couple of hours with your knowledge versus days of frustrating tweaking a billion vertex mesh. low poly is considered in the 4000-5000 range these days i guess. try and get a solid mesh in that region count and then smooth to work in on details or use it as a SubD cage. it's a good discipline too and you'll be able to model game models not only hi-res. like i said, you know anatomy but what you're also going to have to do is learn to flow your edgeloops around the muscle masses too. i suggest taking a look at the body topology thread in the maya section, it's not maya specific. seriously, you'll have a better body lower res-cage in no time with your skills and it will save you oodles in the long run.
look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I know I have a LOT of work ahead of me and I'll get to it right away. I'm used to all nighters anyway.
By the way, my 3D is currently generic, eventually I'm gonna turn it into the likeness of a friend of mine...

I will need all your help to get this right! :bounce:

Nevermind the "clothing" they are just a place holder because she happends to be anatomically correct and I work in a studio of people who might consider this porn. It allows me to avoid interrogation an lessens the likelyhood of prying eyes.
