View Full Version : Custom Shaders -- suggestions
I'm more of a programmer than a modeler and I've recently discovered the Maya OpenAPI architecture. I'm very impressed by its internals and want to write a few plugins for custom shaders to get more of a understanding of the details. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on useful custom shaders that I can attempt.

You might want to try a toon shader. You will/can get into things a little more complicated than just implementing a certain BRDF that someone has already developed.
You might also want to look at some old siggraph papers to see if there are any subjects that interest you enough to start coding.

Various "cartoon like" eyeball shaders.

I did this noise shader which looks somewhat like camoflage. The only problem is there are spots on the patterns. I'm considering doing a noise shader that allows you access to strange noise patterns that have good visual appearance.
