in my case this error was caused by a certain graphic mode, though i cannot recall whether it was DirectX or OpenGL. try to switch your graphic mode to another one - in case you're using DirectX, switch to OpenGL and vice versa.

I was getting the same error. I had to switch from OpenGL to DirectX to get it to work.
