View Full Version : Using 2 monitors with Max
Vitalef 01-22-2006, 07:41 PM I use 2 monitors with my laptop and have dialog boxes such as render set up and curve editor on the second monitor. When I use my laptop without the second monitor attached I can not get to these dialogs...
How do I reset my dialog possistions to my primary monitor?
Thanks

Delete your 3dsmax.ini(do a backup before that in case it doesn't work).

this may help you
try to setup your graphic card driver to dont let the windows go outside the screen or create a shortcut to move the current windows to the netx screen...

or create a shortcut to move the current windows to the netx screen...
How do you do that?
Also, if you don't want to delete your .ini file you can change the coordinates of each window within your .ini file. Open your .ini file and search for "RenderDialogPosition", in the dimensions under it change the first number to 0 and it should be set.

Close and open the dialog window using menus; (this makes sure the dialogue box is selected)
Press Alt-Space
Press M
Now you can move the window using your cursor keys.

the 3dsmax.ini file holds all dialogue window screen coordinates based on the last sucessful display of the window.
it's always good to review what's in it within your text editor (notepad) and change the coordinates for the dialogue windows to 1,1 which will position the window to the top/left (X/Y) corner of your desktop. I've got two versions for my 3dsmax GUI, one for single monitor and another for dual monitor arrangement.
make a backup of this file before you make the changes to the original. that way, you can always revert back to the backup.

Or you can use this little application file that will 'Snap' all your settings back to a single monitor layout. Saves you form having to re-edit your ini files everytime you go back and forth between a single and dual monitor setup. I use it all the time and it works like a charm.
hope this helps.
